Union Minister terms Rahul Gandhi ‘hybrid’, asks ‘how does son of Muslim become a Brahmin’

Sisri : Union Minister Anantkumar Hegde has sparked a fresh row by calling Congress President Rahul Gandhi a ‘hybrid person’.

The Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, known for his inflammatory remarks, made the comment while addressing a function in Karnataka’s Sisri .

In a video that has gone viral, Hegde questioned whether Rahul Gandhi would give DNA proof to establish that he is a Brahmin, in the same way that Congress has been demanding proof from the NDA government for the Balakot airstrikes.

“This Muslim who calls himself a ‘januedhari’ Hindu, is there any proof that he is a Brahmin?,” asked Hegde

“This son of a Muslim, whose mother is a Christian, does he have any proof? I am not joking,” added Hegde, as his audience laughed.

“When Rajiv Gandhi died, there were bits of his body. DNA testing had to be done of the body pieces. Sonia Gandhi said take sample of Priyanka (Gandhi) and not Rahul. This is there on record. So, this hybrid person is

asking for proof. This kind of character this party (Congress) has. There is no question of Indians allowing this party to win,” ANI quoted Hegde as saying.

Last year, a priest of the temple had claimed that while visiting the famous Brahma temple in Pushkar in Rajasthan, Rahul Gandhi had offered ‘puja’ and also revealed his ‘gotra’ as Kashmiri Kaul Brahmin.

However, this is not the first time Hegde has made a controversial remark.

Earlier, Hegde had reportedly said people should identify themselves by their religion and those who, without knowing about their parental blood, call themselves secular, don’t have their own identity. The BJP politician had also said “we are here to change the Constitution and we’ll change it”.

Hegde, a five-time Lok Sabha member from Uttara Kannada, had also hit out at state Congress chief Dinesh Gundu Rao by dragging his wife’s religion into a Twitter spat.

DNA is a technical test that cannot identify if one is Hindu, Christian, or Muslim. Indian Politicians, in general, have nothing better to do than badmouthing one’s identity and character. It would have been better if they could reflect what their religion has taught them. Indians are first Indian and not BJP or Congress. God is not Hindu, Christian, or Muslim – religion is a principle for practising mankind, and irrespective of which religion one follows, all religions only teach to love, care, and respect everything and everyone that God has created on this earth. We must all learn to… Read more »

The question was not about what religion Rahul is. But the question is about the claim that he is a Brahmin. He is Janeudhari. His Gothra is such and such. With that, he is referring to lineage and not faith, the Lineage he is claiming is a lie. If Rahul had said he is a Hindu, Christian or Muslim by faith, no one can and should question it and everyone has to respect it but here the question is faking his identity.

I think the way in which Mr Hegde conveys something makes people take it lightly. But What he is telling is heavy stuff and true. And I do not see why it is controversial. It is a known and sworn fact that Indira married Feroze, a non-brahmin. His son Rajiv, is a non-brahmin/non-Hindu by religion (culturally a Hindu, no doubt). Sonia is Christian. How can Rahul claim to be a Brahmin? How can he have any Gothra? None of this is made up. How can this be controversial? what is questionable in the fact cited here? Controversial is the claim… Read more »
