The United Artistes Band is a group of talented music lovers and players exhibiting their talent and passion for music by meeting up, practicing and playing together for the love of music. The United Artistes Band (UAB), a budding band of talented artistes, is a one stop destination for all you music lovers, especially the Brass Band. The Band group performed and spread the joy and happiness among all the inmates of the Home with their music playing and singing. The programme was well attended by the citizens of Mangaluru
Speaking on the occasion Wilma Aranha, chairperson of Cheshire Homes (which is a non-governmental organization)-Mangaluru, said that there were many cases of physical and mentally challenged persons in Mangaluru and surroundings and they plan to start more centres. These centres will also take the responsibility of enabling more challenged people to get a better life and be empowered.
“The Cheshire Home here having more than 30 resident, enables inmates who are challenged in several ways to be empowered by training them in different skills like tailoring, screen printing, greeting-card making, phenyl-making, soap-making, envelope-making and horticulture. The jasmine cultivation has been helping the home generate some income. Government grants are not regular and timely. It has to run the home by donations and through the income generated by selling the material produced by the inmates. The Leonard Cheshire Disability International (founder of the Cheshire Home all over the world), With ‘Result based management’, with best efforts could improve the living conditions as also empower the disabled with livelihood program” added Mrs Aranha.
