Unnao rape case victim who was set on fire by accused airlifted to Delhi

Uttar Pradesh: The Unnao rape victim, who was set ablaze by five men on Thursday when she was on her way to a court in Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, was airlifted to Delhi. The victim was admitted to a local hospital in Lucknow with 90 per cent burns but was later shifted to a civil hospital.

The incident happened at Sindupur village under Bihar police station area in Unnao district. The accused included two who were accused in the rape case. The woman named five persons and all of them have been arrested, the police said.

In her statement, the Unnao rape victim said she was beaten up, stabbed and later set on fire by the five men. She alleged that Shivam and Shubham Trivedi had abducted and raped her in December 2018. The FIR, however, was registered in March.

VICTIM WALKED FOR OVER 1 KM TO SEEK HELP

The Unnao rape victim had walked for over one kilometre to seek help after the crime, villagers in Sindupur, where the crime took place, told Aaj Tak. They said that the victim was still ablaze when she approached one of the villagers for help.

Villagers in Sindupur, where she was burnt, told Aaj Tak that she walked up to a person who was working outside a house and sought help. The victim then herself called 112 and informed the police about the incident. The PRV and ambulance arrived only after the victim’s call.

Doctors attending on her at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Hospital in Lucknow said she is in a “very serious” condition.

“The condition of the girl who was set on fire and bought here at 10 am is very serious. She has 90 per cent burn injuries and we are taking the utmost care,” Medical Superintendent Dr Ashutosh Dubey said.
