Unscholarliness among journalists is hazardous – Radhakrishna Bhadti
Moodbidri: “Authentic journalism is losing its credibility due to the unscholarliness and unethical practices of today’s journalists is a hazardous development,” said journalist and environmental activist Radhakrishna Bhadti. He was speaking at the “Media Buzz 2018” a state level media fest organized by the department of journalism and mass communication studies of Alva’s college, Moodbidri at the Kuvempu Hall, on Friday, February 16.
“Media Buzz -2018” is a state level inter-collegiate Media fest organized by the Journalism department of Alva’s college. This year it has come up with the theme ‘March towards Nature’.
After inaugurating the programme Radhakrishna said, “losing ethics in journalism and the miss interpretation of facts about nature is a matter of worry. Today’s Journalists are assuming that they are supreme and knowledgeable and it makes them interpret simple things in a complicated manner affecting the psychological stability of common people. Moreover, political controversies are becoming their major area of concern. So there is an urgent need for the revival of true journalism,’ he added.
Amar Prasad, News Presenter at TV9 Kannada channel was the chief guest of the day. While addressing the gathering he said, “Man has to come out of the notion of superior and should realize the fact that he is just a cell belonging to this environment.” He shared his personal experience while speaking about career opportunities, “More than studying Journalism, going deep to the issue is important,” he acknowledged.
A documentary pictured on Mijarguttu Ananda Alva named ‘Shathamanadanelasantha’ and a music album named “MounaMouna” by Manjunath, a student of the college was released. Several other academic publications like ‘Alva’s Madhyama’ a bilingual practice journal, Madhyama departmental Magazine, Alva’s mirror a bilingual weekly, Alva’s vision a Photojournal, Suddimane wall poster was also released. Aluminates of college who are Mangalore University rank holders in Journalism were also felicitated on the occasion. More than 20 colleges across Karnataka participated in the event.
Mijara Gutthu, Ananda Alva; Ex-minister Amarnath Shetty; Entrepreneur Shripathi Bhat; Trustees Vivek Alva and Dr Vinay Alva; Principal Prof Kurian; Department Head Dr Moulya Jeevanram were present among others.
