Udupi: Congress party in Karnataka is ready to take on any challenge from the BJP as we have fulfilled 80 percent of the promises made in our 2013 election manifesto and will fulfil the rest in the coming months. The upcoming elections will be a battle between Congress and the BJP said AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka, K C Venugopal.
He was speaking during the review meeting of Mane Manege Congress campaign the District Congress Bhavan here on Monday, November 6. ‘Mane Manege Congress’ campaign in the district is successful as the party workers in the district have put up a better performance especially in the Kaup Constituency under the leadership of MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake.
‘Mane Manege Congress’ campaign spreading awareness about the achievements of the Siddaramaiah government has proved to be a success in the district. People are happy with the schemes like the ‘Anna Bhagya’, ‘Ksheera Bhagya’ programmes and will vote for the party in the next elections. If the party workers campaign properly the Congress will win with a clear majority in all the 5 seats in Udupi district, he added.
Venugopal came down heavily on the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre and said that the Modi government is looting the middle class in the name of GST. He said the previous Congress-led UPA government had planned to implement GST in such a way that it would not burden the people. But the Modi government has made a few changes which help the capitalists. “The Modi government is looting the people of the nation and giving the money to those who helped it financially in the last élections,” he said.
The Siddaramaiah-led government had fulfilled 80% of the promises it made during the elections four years ago. However, the Modi government has not fulfilled even 25% of the promises it made before the elections in the last three years. This is enough to state that the Karnataka government is far better than the Modi government, he said and added that the workers of the party could approach the voters proudly with the programmes and schemes launched by the Congress government. The BJP is interested only in gaining votes by dividing people along the lines of religion but the Congress will be uniting all the people, he added.
The Congress wave was also evident in the elections of the students’ unions of various universities. The downward spell has begun for Narendra Modi. People are fed up with the BJP as it is trying to divide the country. People will vote to bring the Congress to power and make Rahul Gandhi Prime Minister of the country, he added.
The newly appointed District Congress president Janaradhan Tonse took charge as the district president from outgoing president and also the Byndoor MLA Gopal Poojary on the occasion.
AICC Observer P C Vishnunath, Rajya Sabha Member Oscar Fernandes, District minister in charge Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA’s Vinay Kumar Sorake, Pratap Chandra Shetty, Congress leaders Basavaraj, G A Bava, Veronica Cornelio, Vishwas Ameen, Roshni Olivera, Christon Almeida, Vishwas Shetty, Shanker Kunder, Naveenchandra Shetty, Shyamala Bhandary, Sarala Kanchan and others were present.
