US Congressman Tim Ryan announces presidential bid
Washington: US Congressman Tim Ryan of the state of Ohio has announced his presidential bid, becoming the newest name in a sizable and still-growing field of Democratic candidates seeking to enter the White House.
“I am going to run for the president of the United States,” Ryan said on Thursday at a TV interview, Xinhua news agency reported.
Ryan is likely to stress his working class roots and campaign for jobs on the trail, and is postured to put himself in a moderate position.
“I understand that legacy of job loss,” Ryan said at the interview. “The country’s so divided right now that we can’t get a plan together. The first thing we ought to do is unify.”
Ryan’s announcement came as more than a dozen presidential hopefuls have launched their campaign in recent months, including more notable names such as Senator Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, and former House member Beto O’Rourke. Former Vice President Joe Biden is said to be on the verge of joining the race.
Ryan, 45, has been in politics for much of his career. He entered the House of Representatives in 2003.
