Utilize existing water sources effectively – Vinay Kumar Sorake
Udupi: “The existing water sources should be effectively utilized to manage the supply of drinking water in the water scarcity areas”, said the Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake. He was speaking while chairing a meeting on drinking water supply at the Taluk Panchayat here on March 9.
The electricity connections waiting for the borewells should be given on priority basis for effective water supply. The MLA task force funds of Rupees 40 lakhs are utilised, while additional funds of Rs 40 lakhs has been granted for the task force. Funds will be sanctioned for drinking water supply related work and additional funds will also be sanctioned if proposals are sent.
The MESCOM officials should provide electrical connections without delay, the pipeline work should soon follow after the electrical connections.
Land has been reserved for the landless people. About 300 applications are pending for granting sites to the landless people. The land reserved by panchayat comes under the forest area for which clearance has to be granted by the deputy commissioners committee. Officials should function effectively in giving clearance and processing the files. An appeal to increase the land from 1.5 cents to 3 cents under 94 CC has been made, he added.
ZP member Chandrika Kelkar said that the pipeline has to be installed from Badagubettu Bridge to Babu Swamy temple and also the scarcity of water is a major issue in the SC/ST colony.
