Mangaluru: Indiana Hospital held the launching ceremony of 1.5 Tesla MRI Unit at the hospital premises here on March 24.
Vice chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka Dr K S Ravindranath inaugurated the 1.5 Tesla MRI Unit by cutting the ribbon.
The programme began with a silent prayer. Neurologist and Director of Indiana hospital Dr Z K Misriwelcomed the gathering.
In his keynote address Chancellor of Nitte University Prof N Vinay Hegde said, “It is my privilege to be a part of this function because this is one of the hospital I see everyday while on my way to the University where I work. It is very difficult to run a hospital because the expectations of the patients is very high and Indiana hospital has done well to reach this height. Today Radiology is a very important part of the diagnostic process because no doctor today depends on physical report of the patients, they look at the lab and radiology reports before treating the patient. I am sure the MRI unit which you have installed in the hospital will play a significant role in providing quality treatment to the patients. Let it be an icon hospital for Mangaluru.”
He also said, “Today the hospital cannot depend only on the patients from Mangaluru, we need patients from Kerala too. I think Kerala patients do not come for treatment but the way the medical colleges are coming up, students from Kerala come here to pursue their education. A good number of patients visit Indiana hospital, but at some point of time you need to look for international patients too by promoting medical tourism in the middle east. You have to start a small clinics in the middle east and promote medical tourism so that people from other countries come here for treatment.
While concluding Hegde said, “People like Dr Yusuf Kumble and Dr Ali Kumble are highly qualified and hardworking and you must succeed because you treat your patients like your family members and you are committed to your profession. He also said that you are in a great location, I am sure Indiana hospital will grow and with your hardwork you will develop the hospital as a centre of excellence”.
In his inaugural speech Dr Ravindranath said, “It is a day for them to cherish because of another milestone in the history of Indiana hospital”.
He further said, “When a patient comes to the hospital we should have all the investigations under one roof for the Content of the patient. Any patient comes to this hospital they can get all the investigations done here. Now a days the life of the doctors has become easier compared to earlier days. Because earlier we used to have only blood test and X-ray done to investigate the patient but now we have all the modern technology to diagnose the patient. If we diagnose the disease at an early stage, the disease can be cured faster. He also said that the man behind the machine is more important, we should have a good technician and a good consultant. We need to look at the patient before suggesting any investigations since it can be expensive. The socio -economic background of the patient should also be considered. Doctors should introduce government schemes for those who cannot afford the treatment. Corporate hospitals are doing a wonderful job because government hospitals do not have good investigating facilities. Corporate hospitals should also as part of their Corporate Social responsibility not deny treatment for any patient when they do not have money.
While concluding Dr Ravindarnath said that Mangaluru is the hub of education and people come from around the world to pursue their education. The quality of medical education is very important. We need to attract patients towards Mangaluru by promoting Medical tourism.
