Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, Durgavahini, Mathrashakti and Om Sri Math-Chilimbi urge Government and District Administration to Help Acid Burn Victim 35-year-old Swapna of Kadaba, Belthangadt Taluk and her family with Financial Aid and other facilities
Mangaluru: During a press meet held at Mangaluru Press Club, Swamij Om Sri Vidyananda Saraswathiji Mathasree Sivajhna Mayee of Om Sri Math said, ” Even though the Kadaba police have taken a man into custody on charges of an acid attack on his sister-in-law over a financial dispute at Kodimbala, Kadaba taluk, there has been various tricks played in this case, and the police have been trying to close the case. If there was no involvement of VHP, BD, On Shri Math this case would have been totally forgotten. We are trying our best to get justice for Swapna, who is still suffering with serious burn injuries in ICU of Govt Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru”.
Swamiji further said, “Swapna a young mother of three children suffered serious burns on her face, neck, hand and chest after her brother-in-law threw acid on her at her house in Kodimbala in Kadaba few days ago over a financial dispute. Her three year old daughter too suffered minor burn injuries in that incident. The accused Jayananda Kothary, aged 55, a LIC agent by profession, attacked Swapna with acid which is used to prepare rubber sheets. The incident came to light the next day after a complaint was filed at Kadaba police station and the accused was arrested”.
“Swapna’s husband had passed away in 2018 under mysterious circumstances, and since then Swapna was living with her three daughters. She had financial dispute with the accused (her brother-in-law) and he was harassing her to repay a loan that her husband had taken. Thereafter, since the bank notices for loan repayment were addressed to the accused, he allegedly attacked Swapna as he was upset over this. In the acid attack, both Swapna and her daughter who were injured were shifted to a hospital in Puttur, and then to Mangaluru Wenlock Hospital, where she is still in ICU” added Swamiji.
Swamiji further said, “The kin of the victim also alleged that the accused had also tried to sexually assault Swapna multiple times from one year, but she resisted. They also allege that though a complaint was filed against the accused at a women’s police station, no action was taken. We, the VHP, Om Sri Math and other organizations feel pity on this young mother, and want to help her out in this situation. We are trying to raise at least Rs 1 lakh as soon as possible, We have also opened a bank account in her name at State Bank of India, Chilimbi, Mangaluru, and request people to contribute generously. We have also met SP Laxmi Prasad seeking his help, and he has assured his support”.
“Since there is no one to help Swapna in her present situation we also urge the government and district administration to help her and her family with financial aid, and also look after the school expenses of her children. VHP, Bajrang Dal, Durgavahini, Mathrashakti and Om Shri Math will fight for this case and see that Swapna gets the proper justice. We also request citizens support and help in this regard also” added Swamiji.
