Chennai, April 15 (IANS) Tamil superstar’s Vijay’s latest outing “Theri” has registered a record opening of $251,123 from premiere shows in US, making it the third best after Rajinikanth’s “Enthiran” and “Lingaa”.
Buoyed by the response, the film’s North America distributor CineGalaxy Inc feels the film is the perfect New Year gift for audiences.
Atlee-directed “Theri” released worldwide on Thursday on the occasion of Tamil New Year, while it had its USA premiere on Wednesday.
In an official statement, the distributor revealed that the film minted $251,123 from Wednesday premieres in USA.
The film, which is about the relationship between a former police officer and his daughter, also stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson.
Nandita Swetha to make Telugu debut with Nikhil’s next
Chennai, April 15 (IANS) Actress Nandita Swetha, who had starred in noteworthy Tamil films such as “Attakathi” and “Mundasupatti”, will be making her Telugu debut with actor Nikhil Siddhartha’s yet-untitled upcoming project.
“Nandita has been confirmed as one of the heroines. It was after months of search, the makers finally zeroed in on Nandita, because she’s very talented and her character has lot of scope for performance,” a source from the film’s unit told IANS.
Directed by Anand Vi, the film also stars Avika Gor and Hebah Patel.
Nandita had always dreamt of working in Telugu filmdom, according to the source.
“She was offered several Telugu projects over the years; however, she was waiting for the right opportunity. She didn’t want to make her Telugu debut with a bad film, hence didn’t sign any project in a hurry,” the source said.
The film, which will be a love story with some fantasy elements, will feature Nikhil in two different avatars.
Produced by Venkateswara Rao, the project has music by Sekar Chandra.
Nandita is currently busy shooting for Selvaraghavan’s Tamil horror-thriller “Nenjam Marappathillai, and she will join the sets of Nikhil’s project from this month end.
Sidharth lauds Alia’s ‘dramatic’ look from ‘Udta Punjab’
Mumbai, April 15 (IANS) Actor Sidharth Malhotra has praised actress Alia Bhatt’s look from the upcoming movie “Udta Punjab”.
Alia’s look from the film was revealed on Friday morning in which she can be seen running from something or someone dangerous and Sidharth has called it a “dramatic and imapctful” one.
“Dramatic impactful transformation awaiting trailer Udta Punjab Alia In Udta punjab,” Sidharth tweeted along with the poster.
Alia will be seen playing a Bihari migrant in “Udta Punjab”.
The film also features actors Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh. The looks of the other actors were unveiled earlier.
Alia’s father and fillmaker Mahesh Bhatt too shared the motion poster and captioned it: “Anything is possible if you have got enough nerve”.
Udta Punjab”, a neo-noir drama thriller, is directed by Abhishek Chaubey. Co-produced by Phantom Films and Balaji Motion Pictures, the movie tells the story of substance abuse in the Indian state of Punjab.
The film is slated to release on June 17.
