Viva Carnaval! Goa Carnival 2018 from 10-13 February
Mangaluru: “Goa Carnaval 2018” will kick off on Saturday, 10 February in Panjim-Goa, and the state of Goa is all gearing up for the much-awaited festival of the year. It’s time to pack up your bags and take a trip to Goa and enjoy the four-day festival in different cities that will keep you on your toes all through the festivity. Enjoy the parades, the dances and the Goan traditional music that will keep you energetic and enthralled throughout the show.
This year, Carnaval will be held from Feb 10th to 13th, 2018 collaborating with the most happening Goa Food and Cultural Festival. Float parades in the major cities will be held as Panjim on 10th February, 4.00 pm onwards (Miramar To Dona Paula); Margao on 11th February, 4.00 pm onwards; Ponda on 11th February, 4.00 pm onwards; Vasco on 12th February, 4.00 pm onwards; Curchorem on 12th February, 4.00 pm onwards; and Mapusa on 13th February, 4.00 pm onwards.
Bruno Azaredo -the King Momo for Goa Carnival 2018
Float dancer Bruno Azaredo has been selected as King Momo, the mythical king, for this year’s Goa Carnival. King Momo is considered the king of Carnivals in numerous Latin American festivities. During the Carnival, King Momo is symbolically given the key of Goa during the festivities that are marked by gaiety and extravaganza. Azaredo (57), a cosmetic developer, has been performing on floats that are taken out during the Carnival parade since 1979. As the King Momo, he will declare the decree of “Eat, Drink and make Merry” for the coastal state which marks the beginning of the Carnival.The mythological figure symbolically rules Goa for the four days during Carnival festivities and also heads the float parades in all the cities, beginning from Panaji.
The categories of floats are Traditional; and Club / Institutions and Family. The Goa Food and Cultural Festival will begin today (Jan 9th) and will conclude on Jan 13th, 2018. One can enjoy and experience the unique flavors of Goa here at the five-day festival. The festival will also consist of musical programs, a line-up of food stalls, entertainment and a lot more.
