Voice against the Ban on Kambala should be strengthened – Raghupati Bhat
Udupi: The voice in favour of the Kambala should be strengthened said former MLA K Raghupati Bhat. He was speaking at a protest organised by the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike in front of the Clock Tower, here on January 27.
People should strengthen their voice in favour of Kambala. The ordinance on Jallikattu was effective because of massive public support. The people of Bengaluru, Hassan and other parts of the state are raising their voice in favour of Kambala. There is no violence reported in the Kambala, with the instructions from the Animal Husbandry Department the Kamabala was held without causing any harm to buffaloes.
The Government of Karnataka has declared introducing an amendment to Prevention of Animal Cruelty Act 1960, legalising Kambala which should be supported. The GOK has also proposed for an ordinance to legalise Kambala, the government should effectively work towards its implementation. The central government will support the ordinance if Karnataka government adopts the same.
If the ban continues on Kambala, the traditional sports event will be restricted only to photographs. Kambala is essential in enriching our tradition, he added.
Ansar Ahamed president of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike said that Kambala is also a part of religious and cultural importance and people should widely support it. Kambala is banned in the wake of violence in Jallikattu without assessing the traditional sport, he added.
