Vote Counting with Full Security on May 15- Traffic Movement/Parking Restriction Announced
Mangaluru: Finally the elections are over after hectic days of preparations, and the fate of Congress, BJP, JD {S} and Independent candidates will be known after the vote counting takes place on 15 May starting from 8 am at Mahatma Gandhi Centenary Higher Primary School- Bondel, where counting of votes will be done for Mangaluru North, Belthangady, Moodbidri constituencies, while at Mahatma Gandhi Centenary PU College- Bondel, vote counting will be for Mangaluru South, Sullia Bantwal, and Puttur. It is learnt that 77.63% polling in Dakshina Kannada district, with Mangaluru South 67.47%, Mangaluru North 74.55%, Belthangady 81.40%, Moodbidri 75.41%, Bantwal 81.89% and Sullia 83% turnouts.
As per Police Commissioner Vipul Kumar, an alternative route is allotted to vehicles taking the direction on May 15 from 6 am till counting is completed, in the area surrounding the Counting place. Vehicles are banned on the road from Karnataka Housing Board office to KHB lane and Gundu Rao Lane. Parking on either sides is also strictly prohibited. Vehicles re-banned and parking prohibited on road from Bondel junction to Gundu Rao lane cross. Vehicles arriving from Bajpe will be rerouted to Kuntikan or Kulur via Kavoor junction.
Vehicles going via KPT to Bondel and Kavoor junction, will have to take the left in front of St Lawrence Church-Bondel towards Gundu ral Lane to KHB colony road to Kavoor junction. Vehicles going to Mangalore International Airport-Bajpe will have to go via Kuntikan-Kavoor junction or Kulur Kavoor junction. Vehicles arriving from the KPT direction to facilitate vote counting will have to take the Gundu Rao lane and park their vehicles at KHB ground. They will take the mud road towards Eshwarkatte road and then take a right to go to KPT. But these restrictions will not apply to vehicles of police officials, election officials and official pass bearers.
With the help of SSB and police force, security will be beefed up ahead of counting centres as well as in the sensitive areas near Bondel, Kavoor, Padavinangadi stretch. DC Sasikant Senthil has restricted political parties from bursting crackers during the celebrations and has advised the police force to keep a close watch on mischief mongers to maintain law and order in the district.
