Voting begins smoothly for assembly elections in Udupi district

Udupi: Voting for the Karnataka assembly elections began in Udupi district in a smooth manner on Saturday, May 12.
After an acrimonious campaign, around 9,93,415 voters will be exercising their franchise to choose between the two main contenders, the BJP and the Congress.
There are 9,93,415 voters in Udupi district of which, 4,78,350 are men 5,15,041 are women and 24 others.
Congress leader and Rajyasabha member Oscar Fernandes and his wife Blossom will exercise their franchise at the Vivekananda school in Ajjarkad, Udupi.
Kaup Assembly constituency Congress candidate Vinay Kumar Sorake along with his wife Daksha Sorake, daughter Dvithi Sorake and Son Dvishan Sorake will exercise their franchise at the Girls PU College in Udupi.
In the Byndoor Assembly constituency, of the 2,22,427 voters, 1,08,154 are men, 1,14,259 are women and 14 others respectively. In Kundapur, the total number of voters are 1,99,575, of which 95,927 are men and 1,03,648 are women. In Udupi, there are 1,00,535 male voters, 1,06,892 female voters and 4 in other categories. The total number of voters in the Udupi Assembly constituency is 2,07,431. In Kaup Assembly constituency, there are 1,82,972 voters of which, 87,020 are men, 95,948 are women and 4 others. In Karkala, there are 1,81,010 voters of which, 86,714 are men, 94,294 are women and 2 others respectively.
As many as 10 pink polling booths managed fully by women are set up in Udupi district. The women staff at these booths will wear pink clothes. The 10 polling booths include 5 in Udupi constituency, two in Kundapur and one each in Kaup and Byndoor and Two in Karkala.
A tribal booth is opened at the Government Higher Primary School at Ragihakklu in Byndoor constituency. A booth manned by differently-abled persons is set up at the Government Higher Primary School at Bellur in Kundapur.
