Want to watch Police Recorded Video on Quran in front of Family and Minister – Ashraf

Mangaluru: “A team of 15 police including SI A K Rakshith Gowda, Uppinangady SI Nandakumar and Puttur CI Mahesh Prasad searched the house of Kalander with the warrant who is accused in the Sharath Madival murder case on September 2 at 10:30 am. The police searched the house of Kalandar’s parents and In-laws. During the search, the police scattered their belongings and also disrespected the Holy Quran which is condemnable. We respect our Holy Quran and those who have insulted the Holy Quran should be punished”, alleged the president of United Muslim Organization K Ashraf in a press meet held at Hotel Woodlands here on September 4.

Addressing the mediapersons Ashraf said, “The police were aware that Kalandar was not in the house and they did not believe the family members. The police allege that Kalandar had taken Rs one crore in connection with the murder, which is not true. The family members had requested not to touch the holy book but the police did not listen to them and threw the Holy book on the ground”, Ashraf alleged.

Ashraf further said, “The Muslim community is hurt by the attitude of the police throwing the Quran on the ground and tearing the Madrasa books. If Kalandar is accused in Sharath Madival case let the police arrest him and punish him severely. But we cannot tolerate the police throwing the Holy Quran on the ground. We have visited the House of Kalandar and met the family members and learnt about the reality. The police have edited the video to save them. Those who are involved in throwing the Holy Quran on the ground should be severely punished.”

Ashraf also said, “To condemn the action of the police we are holding a protest in front of the DC office on September 8. We will demand justice and the truth should come out. We will protest peacefully to demand justice.”

When asked about the video which the police have recorded in the presence of Panchas during the search, Ashraf said, “We want to see the video in the presence of the family members and the district minister. We spoke to the family members and we believe in their statement.”

When asked about why Ashraf is supporting the murder accused, Ashraf said, “I am not supporting the murder accused but this is our Quran issue and we have high respect towards the Quran. The police have played with the sentiments of the Muslim community and we want to know the truth.”

When asked why they had called a protest without watching the video recording and understanding the reality, Ashraf said, “After watching the video we will cancel or postpone our protest.”
