Washing feet of Safai Karmacharies by Modi is just Publicity Gimmick – Eshwar Khandre
Udupi: Washing the feet of safai karamcharis (sanitation workers) by Prime minister Narendra Modi is just Publicity gimmick said Eshwar Khandre working president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee.
He was speaking to media persons during his visit to the District Congress office on Monday, February 25. When the elections are nearing Modi remembers the Safia Karmacharis. Prime Minister Modi has spent rupees Five Thousand crores for Publicity. The Congress has never done such publicity gimmicks for elections, he said.
During the Congress government, the State government regularised the services of contract pourakarmikas. Civic workers who are getting a monthly salary of Rs 14,000 to 15,000 will now get a minimum salary of Rs 17,000. Our government has sent many Pourakarmikas to foreign tours to study civic cleanliness and cleaning of the manhole system adopted there.
When asked about former MP Jayaprakash Hegde returning to the Congress Party. Eshwar said that he is most welcome to our party if he is interested to come. He is a good politician, we welcome him, he said.
Khandre accused the BJP of dividing people on the basis of caste and religion. He went onto to assert that the BJP should be renamed as ‘Bohot Jhooti Party (Big Liar Party). Modi government has betrayed the people’s mandate by failing to deliver on its promises. Modi had made toll promises before the party came to power in 2014. But he failed to deliver on most counts and the time has now come to seek accountability from the government.
Terming the demonetization of higher denomination currency notes as a complete failure, he said that the NDA government could not achieve any of the stated objectives. Before the Lok Sabha polls, Modi promised to bring back black money stashed in foreign banks and that Rupees 15 lakh would be deposited in the bank account of each citizen. In the last five years not even 15 paise have been deposited so far, he said.
Modi had also promised to provide 2 crore jobs if the BJP was voted to power. However, he has failed to create even 8 lakh jobs in the last five years. People of the country have now realised that Mr. Modi has made tall promises but failed to deliver.
Former minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, District Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor and others were present.
So Mr Khandre, what did you want him to wash? Pappu ka sar?
