Water Crisis, Take Stern Action Against Lethargic Officials – Ramanath Rai
Mangaluru: A water supply review meet was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here, on May 5.
The PDO’s of various Panchayats explained the steps taken to tackle the water crisis in their respective Panchayats. Minister for Health and Family Welfare, UT Khader said, “Though funds are released to drill bore wells wherever necessary, many places have no borewells yet.”
Two PDO’s from Ulaibettu and Someshwar were absent for the meeting and looking at their lethargic behaviour, District Minister-In-Charge B Ramanath Rai asked the authorities to take stern action against the absentees.
Ramanath Rai said, “The water situation is very grave this year and review meetings are held at every Taluk. If any official shows lethargy in the matter of tackling water crisis, strict action will be taken against them. The priority is drinking water. People will ask us if we have provided them with drinking water and we should be capable of answering them.”
DC AB Ibrahim said, “Several steps are taken to save water and avoid water wastage. The industries are barred from lifting river water, there is a ban on water being used for agriculture, bore wells are dug, water is being supplied in tankers, water from private wells is being lifted to be supplied to the public.”
MLC Ivan D’Souza said, “Many meetings are held in this regard and several decisions are also taken. But none of these decisions are implemented up to the maximum extent. The DC should look into this matter.”
An order was passed that no private borewell should be drilled till May 31. The cost of private water tankers was capped at Rs 900 for every 6000 litres of water.
MLA JR Lobo, Mayor Harinath, ZP CEO Srividya, MCC Commissioner Dr H N Gopalkrishna, ADC Kumar and others were also present.
Great !! So, Mr.Rai is going to take ‘strict’ action against himself ? Because he is as guilty as others in ignoring this problem for many years!!!
Strict action will be taken against the responsible officials. Ha Ha. Dismiss them for dereliction of duty and then talk. Unless you take a stern action, nothing is going to change. Because of the antiquated laws, it takes a dynamite to kick the Municipality employee out. Look at the private sector. If you are not doing your job, you are out.
if he kicks out somebody his vote bank is at risk…he will never convert his words into action…
