‘We need an MP who will respond to woes’ – Pramod Madhwaraj
Chikkamagaluru : The problems encountered by the people in Chikkamagaluru and Udupi districts are different, said Pramod Madhwaraj, who is Udupi – Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency Congress – JD(S) candidate.
“Chikkamagaluru district faces the problem of lack of irrigation, encroachment and problems faced by forest dwellers. The people should elect an MP who can become the voice of such growers and forest dwellers,” he added.
He was addressing a press meet in town on Saturday. “The incumbent MP has failed to listen to the woes of the people and thereby has neglected the constituency. She has been seeking votes by wearing the mask of Modi,” he criticised.
“The function of an MLA and panchayat members are different. Similarly, the function of a prime minister and an MP are different. Seeking votes by combining all the functions clearly proves that Shobha Karandlaje has accepted her failure. The wind of the ‘#Go back Shobha’ campaign initiated by the BJP workers in Udupi has spread across the Udupi – Chikmagalur constituency,” Madhwaraj stressed.
Speaking further he said that the Modi-led NDA government has not done anything concrete in the last five years other than changing names of welfare projects of the previous UPA government.
“Those who use the name of Modi are unaware of the work carried out by Modi. Demonetisation and faulty implementation of the GST has only inconvenienced the people. The economy has been hit by the policies of the government,” he added.
“I have said that I will felicitate those whose income has increased in the last five years. So far, however, no one has come forward to accept the felicitation,” the former MLA pointed out.
Madhwaraj said that the Congress, under the leadership of AICC president Rahul Gandhi, had proposed NYAY, a minimum income guarantee scheme of Rs 6,000 a month to 20% of the poorest households in the country.
He added, “The coalition parties have convinced the leaders of the coalition. The votes secured by the parties will help the coalition candidate win the election. The JD(S) has issued me a B-Form that has been accepted by the Election Commission.
It is not right to discuss party membership at this juncture.” A joint meeting of the JD(S) and the Congress workers was held in Chikkamagaluru and Udupi districts. The party workers are unitedly campaigning.
