We need International Standard Swimming Pool, Let’s find a solution – MLA Lobo during EMUHS protest meet

Mangaluru: The Emmekere Maidan Ulisi Horata Samiti held a protest meet to retain the play ground at Emmekere here on September 3.

Addressing the gathering member of EMUHS Dinakar Shetty said, “The government is planning to construct a swimming pool and the first phase of the work has already started. More than 25000 people reside in Emmekere and the Emmekere ground is the only place for the children of that area to play. Today we have gathered here to retain the ground and MLA J R Lobo is with us to listen to our grievances. Let the government develop the ground so that children, as well as students, can play on this ground.”

Speaking on the occasion MLA J R Lobo said, “When I was the commissioner, there was a pond in this place. I thought of making it as a ground and we started to fill debris here and today it is a play ground. I know that most of the students play football here. From the past five years the government was planning to construct a international standard swimming pool in Mangaluru. So we found this ground suitable for the International standard swimming pool. When we had planned the project there was no objection from the people but now the residents of Emmekere are objecting to construct the International standard Swimming pool here.”

MLA Lobo further said, “We need to sit with the concerned authorities to solve this problem. At any cost we have to construct a International standard Swimming pool and we need land for that. We need to find alternative land for the swimming pool. I will discuss this issue with the District Minister In-charge and Deputy commissioner since I cannot take the decision alone. All the residents from Emmekere should hand over a memorandum to the Minister and the DC. I will arrange a meeting with the Minister and the DC to discuss on shifting the International swimming pool from Emmekere to another place”.

MLA Lobo also said, “People from Shaktinagar came to me asking for the swimming pool project in their area. But we had finalized to construct the swimming pool at Emmekere. At any cost we need an international standard Swimming pool in Mangaluru and we need to find another place. Today a number of people forgetting party differences have participated in the protest meet which is a good sign that they want to retain the ground. Let all join hands to find a solution to this issue.”

The Residents of Emmekere submitted a memorandum to MLA J R Lobo on the occasion to be handed over to the District Minister In-charge.

Corporator Premanand Shetty, Divakar, Kavitha, Yogish Shetty Jeppu, Suhail Kandak and others were also present.

It is very pleasing and smoothening to read the article about the development in a place called “Emmekere” that we have never seen. It is interesting to see the overwhelming enthusiasm of the native people and their desire to group together and develop various sports related activities including the creation of a small swimming pool. Having been fully familiarized with the creation of a swimming pool, this is indeed a fine investment, but we strongly recommend that initially try and construct a small size swimming pool, if desired, and learn and earn all the required knowledge and technology essential not… Read more »

I would recommend a smaller size swimming pool with 8ft deep at one end, 3-3.5 ft deep at the other end and 4.5 ft deep in the middle. I have used a Olympic size swimming pool earlier and it’s not that useful except for just swimming from one end to the other. The smaller size 8ft deep swimming pool which I’m using right now is more fun and good for diving and swimming to the shallow end. Right now, after swimming for almost 3 years in a small size swimming pool, I can dive and swim under water to the… Read more »
