‘We Serve’! Lions Club Balmatta and Bajal host ‘Zone Social’

Mangaluru: With the motto “We Serve”, Lions Clubs worldwide has a mission to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs. Lions Clubs International (LCI) is an international secular, non-political service organization founded by Melvin Jones in 1917. As of April 2015, it had over 46,000 local clubs and more than 1.4 million members in over 200 countries around the world, and among them being these two local clubs namely Lions of Mangaluru-Balmatta; and Lions Club of Mangaluru-Bajal and these two clubs have been very active in their community projects, which include sight conservation, hearing and speech conservation, diabetes awareness, youth outreach, international relations, environmental issues, and many other programs.

The stated purposes of Lions Clubs International are: to Organize, charter and supervise service clubs to be known as Lions clubs; to Coordinate the activities and standardize the administration of Lions clubs; to Create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world; to Promote the principles of good government and good citizenship; to Take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community; to Unite the clubs in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding; to Provide a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; provided, however, that partisan politics and sectarian religion shall not be debated by club members; to Encourage service-minded people to serve their community without personal financial reward, and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavors. And both these clubs with their dynamic and energetic presidents, board members and active members have achieved most of the purposes of Lions Club International.
