Mangaluru: In a press statement by St Aloysius College submitted to the media personnel, Fr. Dionysius Vaz Sj. Rector & Vice President, Mangalore Jesuit Educational Society{MJES } and Fr {Dr} Praveen Martis Sj-Principal of St Aloysius College {Autonomous}-Mangaluru about the Road Controversy from Catholic Club to Ambedkar Circle-Writ Appeal in the High Court, have stated that “St Aloysius College had extended all possible cooperation to the District Administration to amicably settle the issue. However, the Vijaya Bank Workers’ Organization unilaterally filed a Writ Petition in the High Court of Karnataka. When their Writ application was rejected by the Hon’ble High Court, they filed a Writ appeal in the Court. The Writ appeal has been accepted by the High Court with a direction to maintain the status-quo till the case is disposed of. The Workers’ Union has interpreted the said Order of the Court as per their convenience as if they have won the case in the Court.”

“In the meantime, St Aloysius College has filed an impleading Writ Application in the High court of Karnataka. All necessary legal steps will be initiated in this regard. Now that the matter is under the consideration of the judiciary, St Aloysius College has submitted a memorandum to Mangaluru City Corporation not to be misled by any such propaganda and that City Corporation and District Administration should not proceed in this matter till the final judicial process is over.” as mentioned in the press release.

Tit-for-tat, in response to the Jesuit priests press statement, the members of Vijaya Bank Workers Organization; and members of International Bunts Welfare Trust {IBWT} held a press meet at Mangalore Press Club, and speaking on the occasion, Raj Gopal Rai-the organizing secretary of IBWT said, ” Whatever statements given by the management of St Aloysius College in the recent press release circulated to the media is not true. We have got all the documents and approval from the concerned authorities/departments, and we can rename the Light House Hill Road to “Mulky Sunder Ram Shetty ” road anytime we want, but we are waiting for a reply from the legal council officials”.

Also speaking during the press meet, Hanumamth Kamath, a social activist said, ” Even after the Vijaya Bank Workers Organization and its other supporting associations had got the approval from the Karnataka High Court to go ahead and rename the road to Mukly Sunder Ram Shetty Road, but St Aloysius College management put a stay order on it. But on 29-9-2017, the HC had issued orders that the road could be renamed as ‘Mulky Sunder Ram Shetty Road”, and we will go ahead with the orders in having rename the road soon, once all procedures are finalized.”

” We have also got the permission to have the Road Renaming Programme, since it does not come under Election Model Code, and also that no politicians are involved in it. I also want to bring to the notice of the public is that St Aloysius College management on couple of their hoardings put up near the college campus entrance, have mentioned the address as ‘St Aloysius College Road’ which is illegal, when the road is still named as Lighthouse Hill Road. We are 100 percent confident that LHH road will be rechristened to Mulky Sunder Ram Shetty Road in the nearest future” added Kamath.

Mulky Karunakar Shetty and Raghuram Suvarna, President and secretary respectively of Vijaya Bank Workers’ Organization, and Devicharan Shetty- President of Youth International Bunts Welfare Trust were also present during the press meet.
