Website Impact! A 9-Month Long Water Leakage Issue-MCC takes Action within a Day after Mangalorean.com highlighted it on 26 April 2020
Mangaluru: Talk about the power of media, especially Electronic media where we highlight the civic issues and within few hours or few days the concerned authorities who can’t bear the criticism about their negligence, quickly get into Action and rectify the civic issues. In the past Mangalorean.com has highlighted various civic issues, and there has been a tremendous effect with most of the problems fixed in no time, from rectifying dilapidated roads, open drainage, non-friendly footpaths, dog menace etc.
Here is yet another story of website publicity which has brought positive results, within a DAY after the article (Ref: Precious Water Seen Lost due to Leakage since 9 Months at Mallikatta) was published on April 26, and this report was about the water leakage near Mallikatte, Mangaluru, a problem lasting since nine months – and after Team Mangalorean highlighted the pending civic issue yesterday, it’s nice to note that MCC has take quick action within a day, where we noticed two labourers working to fix the problem.
BEFORE……….
This existing water leakage issue was brought to the notice of Yours Truly of Team Mangalorean, by a senior citizen Naveen Chandra, residing in Castle Bagh apartments, Mallikatta, Mangaluru across from the spot of water leakage. This heavy water leakage was due to the carelessness of workers when the new concrete work was done on that stretch of the road, or could be due to faulty pipe- but whatever the reason, no one from MCC had bothered to fix it, for the last nine months or so.
Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Naveen Chandra (a retired bank officer from SBI, Mumbai) residing in Castle Bagh Apartments since two decades, with his neighbour Aloysius D’Souza, (also a retired bank officer from Vijaya Bank) standing by his side, had said, “Despite repeated complaints made to the officials of MCC for the last 8-9 months, they have totally ignored our pleas to repair or plug the leakage. While water is precious these days, losing water day and night through such kind of carelessness and ignorance of the City Officials, is not a healthy sign. One of the MCC engineers, who had once visited the spot, and assured that the problem would be taken care soon, but until now we have not seen any action. We thought of highlighting this issue through media, and Team Mangalorean/Mangalorean.com obliged our request, and we hope that this issue is rectified at the earliest before more precious water is lost”.
Yes, this water pipe was losing gallons and gallons of water 24X7 for over nine months, and that the civic body should have taken care long ago, but they didn’t. But as they say “Better Late Than Never”, after Team Mangalorean highlighted it, we are seeing Action from MCC now. Water leaks are becoming a significant cause for concern with corporations/municipalities desperately trying to conserve more water while trying to decrease the amount of clean water that is going waste through burst water pipes. In the established neighbourhoods that enjoy the relative reliability of an MCC hookup, 44 percent of the city’s water supply either seeps out through ageing pipes or gets siphoned illegally.
Now that the workers are digging and trying to find the leak point, it will be fixed in the next two-or-three days, according to the workers. Team Mangalorean is glad that our report woke up the concerned MCC officials to spring into Action, to fix this leaking water pipe, at least, after nine months, so that in future not a single drop of precious water is lost- and make the nearby residents happy, including Senior Citizens, Naveen Chandra and Aloysius D’Souza.
On a final note, Even though the other day, one of the seniors among these two, finding that Yours Truly was from an electronic media, pointed out that it would be nice if this issue was highlighted in the print media- but I gave back a quick reply saying- “Sir, response and action from the concerned authorities have been faster when civic issues were highlighted in electronic media??”. And for that matter, this Website Impact on the water leakage issue is PROOF- so also are all the following Website Impacts. How about that!
