Website Impact! Citizens Help Ms Rajani Shetty in her efforts to FEED Stray Dogs during Lockdown
Website Impact! Citizens have come forward to Help Animal Lover Ms Rajani Shetty in her efforts to FEED Stray Dogs during Lockdown, after Team Mangalorean had published a report- and among the people who have come forward to help in her service is Mackline Austin Viegas, a M Sc graduate and a Animal Lover.
Mangaluru: Talk about the power of media, especially Electronic media where we highlight the civic issues and within few hours or few days the concerned authorities who can’t bear the criticism about heir negligence, quickly get into action and rectify the civic issues. In the past Mangalorean.com has highlighted various civic issues through our website, and there has been a tremendous effect with most of the problems being fixed in no time, from rectifying dilapidated roads, open drainage, non-friendly footpaths, dog menace etc etc.
With a rising number of positive coronavirus cases, several parts of India have gone into lock-down, including Mangaluru. And while humans have been finding myriad ways to deal with the lock down, stray animals have ended up becoming an unforeseen casualty of the lock down. Thousands of stray dogs in our city depend on daily markets, restaurants and local good Samaritans who feed strays. But with coronavirus sending people into isolation and public establishments shutting down, strays have a hard time finding food. These strays are starving with no one serving them, since restaurants and other eateries are closed. And during that situation a animal lover by the name of Ms Rajani Shetty has been going around the City feeding these starving stray dogs during this lockdown.
And following a article in Mangalorean.com on Ms Rajani’s efforts in taking care of these stray dogs, there was tremendous response from our readers, who have willingly come forward to help Ms Shetty in her efforts in feeding these strays during the lockdown. Couple of citizens have already donated money for her good work, and many others have called in and assured of their help once the lockdown is lifted. Rotary Club of Mangaluru Metro had donated 200 kg of rice, and a lady from Mumbai had donated few bags of Pedigree dog food. And among these citizens who have extended their support and help is a young gentleman and a M Sc graduate running his own coaching institute named ‘Austin Educators Coaching Institute’ in the city- and this person is none other than a animal lover, Mackline Austin Viegas, residing in Yekkur, in the outskirts of Mangaluru.
And this morning being a totally lockdown day in the City, Mackline was all ready to join Ms Rajani Shetty in feeding the stray dogs in the Mannagudda, and Urwa areas. Mackline’s car trunk was fully loaded with Pedigree dog food, few litres of milk, bread and other dog goodies- all for his love towards the stray dogs. Even though Mackline, was a stranger to these City stray dogs for the first time, that didn’t bother these furry animals in getting fed by him- and they all wagged their tails for Mackline’s kind gesture!
Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Mackline said, “I have been helping the voiceless animals since I was 20 years old in small ways being a student. It wasn’t a great deal but it was great to help the animal that I found in front of my eyes.Once I took up the job I started helping strays here and there from small proportion of my salary. Now after three years in becoming entrepreneur, (resigned my day time job last month), I had enough time during the day. I had no plans to start a trust or Foundation etc…but that does gives legal rights to enhance your doings by bringing in more helping hands. I don’t believe much great in praying inside walls and seeking good things to happen outside. I feel great to do things outside from what I intend to ask in prayers”.
He further said, “There are many cases in which animals especially domesticated pets like dogs, cats, cows have shown great loyalty and love to the people who took care of them. They do not understand our complex world of getting things done with money-The nature doesn’t charge us anything for providing us natural resources, and hence they all should belong to animals as well. I feel we should develop compassionate and empathy towards animals. Animals keep reminding humans of loyalty which is hard in present world to retain for most. I am financially independent with my business and I don’t seek any donations for my self work. But if anybody is willing to provide helping hands in reaching to these animals in Mangaluru, 100/100 then such help would be of more value”.
“My aunt who is nun Sr. Fiorella from Nirmala convent, is my inspiration for love towards animals. In future, since if through certain means and possibilities I happen to open a Trust, I would run it in such a way, which must present NGO’s in Mangaluru the don’t show the transparency. I am saying this on record because I got stable business of my own and whatever is donated to the Trust shall be used only for its purpose. NGO’s should stop being ridiculous by not showing 100% transparency. Even public don’t bother to ask as they are busy in their lives. I focus on quality work. Money will always follow. When I feed animals by myself or anyone is feeding from what I donated in front of my eyes I feel that it’s quality donation and not blind donation” added Mackline.
And when such is the present situation in Mangaluru due to coronavirus lockdown, it would be a good gesture from Mangaloreans to feed as many strays as possible in their areas and whenever possible to help the animals survive-just like Ms Rajani and Mackline Austin. However, in the event of a lock down, if they are not fed, many will die, creating another kind of a problem. There should be many animal lovers in Mangaluru, and therefore, it is the need of the hour that at least you all come forward and feed these hungry four-legged animals. When the govt and district administration has totally neglected these strays, it is when Good Samaritans like Ms Rajani and Mackline come to the rescue of these lovable strays.
And while these two Good Samaritans, Ms Rajani Shetty and Mackline Viegas, are all set to take care and feed the stray dogs during this lockdown, and also later, it would be a good idea if others also follow in their footsteps, and do what these duo are doing in this need of the hour. Open your hearts and give generously towards the service that is provided by Ms Rajani towards the starving strays. If Mackline and many others could come forward and lend their support and join in Ms Rajani’s efforts, WHY NOT YOU?
