Website Impact! DTO of KSRTC Warns City Bus Conductor for His Rude Behavior with Passenger

Mangaluru: Once again Mangalorean.com has proved one more positive result after highlighting another civic issue -Talk about the power of media, especially Electronic media where we highlight the civic issues and within few hours or couple of days the concerned authorities who can’t bear the criticism about their negligence, quickly get into action and rectify the civic issues. In the past Mangalorean.com has highlighted various civic issues through our website, and there has been a tremendous effect with most of the problems being fixed in no time, from rectifying dilapidated roads, open drainage, non-friendly footpaths, dog menace, neglected garbage, illegal hoardings, pot holes, dying trees etc.

On 9 April 2019, Team Mangalorean had published an article “https://www.mangalorean.com/bus-conductor-passenger-argument-over-chillare-goes-viral-on-social-media/“in Mangalorean.com, and the link was sent to the RTO and higher authorities in the police department. Nigel Albuquerque, the founder member of MCC Civic Group, and active member in the Area Sabha & Ward Committee had also played an important role in sending the link to RTO In-Charge John Baptist Misquith, who later forwarded the link of the article and video to the Division Transport Officer of KSRTC which manages the city bus service, to take further action on the incident.

In the meantime, the passenger S K P Kulimeru, a bank officer at Karnataka Bank speaking to Team Mangalorean about the incident said, “On 9 April I had boarded the KSRTC City bus bearing Reg No KA 42 F 1919 at around 2 pm from Kavoor and bought ticket to Infosys-Kottara Chowki which was valued Rs 8, by giving the bus conductor a Rs 10 bill. But he was reluctant to give back the Rs 2 change, and when I requested for the change back he started yelling and abusing me, even threatening me of dire consequences”.

“In the meantime I videotaped our conversation on my mobile phone in order to forward it to the concerned people to do the needful. The conductor even challenged me that even if I complain no action could be taken by the KSRTC authorities and that I am free to do anything that I want to. Further the bus was not stopped at my desire destination, instead was dropped at the next stop after settlement. My concern is about thsi incident is not much about the Rs 2 in change back, but the way the bus conductor behaved in such a non-human and arrogant way” added Kulimeru.

On 13 Saturday, Yours truly along with Nigel Albuquerque met M B Jaishanth Kumar, the Division Traffic Officer and asked him what action has been taken in this regard, where he said, “I did receive the link and video from RTO Misquith, and also the written complaint from the passenger. In the meantime, I had called the driver and the bus conductor to my office, and issued a strict warning not to indulge in rude behaviour with the passengers any more, for which they have agreed. And as per the written complaint from the passenger against the bus conductor, we will process the case since we have to follow certain procedures. Once a suitable decision and action is taken we will notify you. Also that the conductor was new to a city route ( just joined here 2 months ago) , and since he hails from Arkalagudu village in Hassan, where the attitude between the passengers and bus conductors is terrible, he might have used that behaviour here”.

While complimenting the service and facilities provided by KSRTC city buses in Mangaluru, Nigel speaking to Jaishanth said, “People commuting in KSRTC city buses really like the facility, with the boarding/alighting bus steps being low, spacious room inside the bus, good seating arrangement, and also good service, except for this recent incident between the conductor and passenger. It would be nice if KSRTC introduces few more city buses, it would benefit the commuters a lot. Hoping that you will do the needful, I thank you for your efforts and concern”.

In reply DTO Jaishanth said, “At present there are 36 KSRTC city buses running in Mangaluru. Your suggestion to add more buses is a good idea, which we have already thought long back. But there are certain restrictions which which we have to chalk it out and overcome, and do our best to add more city buses to our fleet. And I thank you all for having patronizing our City buses, and for your suggestions and comments” .

Team Mangalorean and MCC Civic Group is happy with the action taken by the DTO, and his future steps in solving the issue. If any one of you come across any problems, either dealing with the bus conductor or driver, about their attitude or behaviour etc kindly send it to info@mangalorean.com or whatsapp to 8746841856. So until then, all of you commuters taking the bus to reach your destination, be mentally prepared for yourselves for combat mode, before entering a City bus?.
