Website Impact! Kadri Road Mess Cleared up to 80%- Rest Will be Done Soon
Mangaluru: Talk about the magic that issues highlighted in Mangalorean.com are getting rectified in no time, and that too within hours- in the last few days, Team Mangalorean had highlighted about officials and cops at the Static Surveillance Teams (check-posts) located near Nanthoor, Mangaluru. Saturday, 13 April 2019, around 6.45 am, busy engaged in reading newspapers- and within few hours the assistant election commissioner sent them a warning to do their job right or face action; also a couple of days ago, Team Mangalorean highlighted about street lights still lit during daylight in Bishop’s compound, Valencia, Mangaluru- and within hours MESCOM had sent their crew to fix the problem; and now we have yet another civic issue rectified within a few hours, about the Kadri Road being in shambles due to Drainage work.
So, once again Mangalorean.com has proved one more positive result after highlighting another civic issue -Talk about the power of media, especially Electronic media where we highlight the civic issues and within a few hours or couple of days the concerned authorities who can’t bear the criticism about their negligence, quickly get into action and rectify the civic issues. In the past Mangalorean.com has highlighted various civic issues through our website, and there has been a tremendous effect with most of the problems being fixed in no time, from rectifying dilapidated roads, open drainage, non-friendly footpaths, dog menace, neglected garbage, illegal hoardings, potholes, dying trees etc.
BEFORE……..
On 25 April Team Mangalorean had published a report “Kadri Road in Shambles? Residents & Commuters are Breathing Dust” in Mangalorean.com in the afternoon about Kadri Raod being in shambles due to the slow on-going drainage work, which had put the nearby residents, commuters and motorists taking that stretch of the road in hardship- and within a few hours by 8 pm the same day the workers got into action to clear all the debris/mud/rocks etc scattered on the side of the road making it a safety hazard. Around 9 pm or so, yours truly had received a bunch of calls from the people in that area, including Rajesh R, who deals with organic vegetarian food, thanking Team Mangalorean for highlighting the issue, which got a quick response from the concerned people of the project.
Around 10 pm, the workers and the JCB driver were busy clearing the mud, rocks, sand etc that was a nuisance for the commuters and motorists, and the work went on till past midnight. Team Mangalorean met the supervisor on duty, and when enquired as to how such quick action was taken to clear all the debris, he replied that his boss had received complaint that the issue was highlighted in a website, and therefore he had directed them to clear all the debris, and close all the open pit along the drainage line. But yours truly kept the word secret, as to who published the report?
Now at least a major portion of the stretch of the road has been cleared, where pedestrians can now walk without any obstacles, and there is enough space for the vehicles to park for a short time- even the open pits along the drainage line has been temporarily covered with slabs until permanent work is done- and the rest of the debris cleaning will be done soon. The piles of mud will be equally distributed along the surface when the work commences soon-until then for a couple of days people have to bear the inconveniences. As they say, “Something is Better than Nothing”, the Kadri Road looks much better than it looked a day ago.

Even though lots of work has to be done, hope the contractors and laborers will speed up the work and finish it before monsoon starts-if not it will be a big mess with all the mud mixed with rainwater. Not a smart thing to start such projects when monsoons are just around the corner- talk about Smart City with No Smart Officials at the helm of it. With most of the cleaning done last night, it has helped a lot for the pedestrians taking their morning walk or for others in the later time of the day. Earlier, the drainage work and dusty roads have made peoples’ commuting worse. Even though the digging is ‘unavoidable’, as all the projects involved are important infrastructure works, but in the meantime, care and concern of the commuters should also be kept in mind, which was very much lacking in this project.
……..After
Besides the dust, the poor sewage and drainage system had become another headache for the people. Now at least with a major portion of the mud etc being cleared off, it’s a relief for people to breathe air rather than mud dust. In conclusion, even though our report has resulted in 80% success, but all I can say is that just like other drainage works that are completed in the City, which are incomplete, irregular and not up to the standard, this project will also add to the credit- wait till the FIRST heavy downpour in a few weeks or months, STREETS will be still FLOODED?- and I am quite positive- and DC will quickly give a day holiday to the schools, so that no young lives are lost in the drowning- and also to hide the shabby and bad work of the so-called Smart Engineers, Smart Contractors and rest of the Smart Officials of the Smart City-Mangaluru Development??
