Website Impact! National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) was Quicker than Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) in Repairing Potholes near Kankanady Pumpwell Flyover

Mangaluru: Talk about the power of media, especially Electronic media where we highlight the civic issues and within a few hours or few days the concerned authorities who can’t bear the criticism about their negligence, quickly get into action and rectify the civic issues. In the past Mangalorean.com has highlighted various civic issues through our website, and there has been a tremendous effect with most of the problems being fixed in no time, from rectifying dilapidated roads, open drainage, non-friendly footpaths, dog menace etc etc.

Here is yet another story of website publicity which has brought positive results, in less than two days after the article (Ref: Pumpwell Bale, Gundi Thule? Lady Educational Consultant Highlights Potholed Road with Onam ‘Pookalam’ ), was published on 2 September, and yet another article (Ref:  Pookalam Effect’ News is Not True! NHAI Fixing Only ONE Pothole was Just An Eye Wash? ) was published on 3 September, after Team Mangalorean found out that the stories that appeared in couple of media, that all the potholes were repaired, was not TRUE. Now the real fun started- immediately Team Mangalorean called one of the Chief Engineer of NHAI Shiva Shanker and said, “If you could fix only ONE pothole just to please a lady Educational Consultant, why not also please a Man?. Little confused, he said, “Which man , Sir”?. I replied back, “The man of Team Mangalorean who had highlighted the issue”. “Oh, we will do it Sir”; “Oh, We will do it, Sir”; “We will do it, Sir”– he said it about three times, like sloka.

BEFORE WEBSITE IMPACT….

Anyways, Team Mangalorean want to extend heartfelt thanks to NHAI Engineer Shiva Shanker, and his team members- Yugandhar Reddy of NHAI, and Shiva Prasad-Navayuga Co Toll Manager, for quickly taking action, and repairing the potholes on 4 September. We really appreciate the follow up by these NHAI team, in rectifying the issue- who were way much better than the officials of Mangaluru City Corporation- who would have taken any action, for a week, or 15 days or even a month. But at least as they say “Something Better Than Nothing”, the NHAI have filled 98% of the potholes, even though not to the desired standards- One or two heavy rains will wash the tar filled potholes. Oh well- this is NHAI, and this is India?

AFTER WEBSITE IMPACT…..

Even though NHAI had fixed only ONE pothole , which was highlighted by Radhika Suvarna through her unique Onam “Pookalam”, where the officials were quick enough to fix that pothole spot, but Team Mangalorean was determined that they repair other potholes too- and our efforts succeeded- and that’s what you call the “WEBSITE IMPACT of MANGALOREAN.COM”- and we are proud to bring a change in such issues, for the benefit of public. Anyways, as promised by Engineer Shiva Shankar, that the potholes have been fixed now, so that commuters/motorists will have a smooth journey, from this day.

Water that was leaking since months has been worked on after we highlighted the issue in last report

After all, a bunch of our City roads are in SHAMBLES, PATHETIC, very DISGRACEFUL, and totally DISASTROUS?- including this one near Pumpwell flyover. So while Radhika Suvarna put her effort and idea in highlighting this civic issue regarding pathetic service roads filled with potholes, other citizens/motorists also need to raise their voices in future or come up with action plans or ideas, if they see any such civic issues, so that they could be rectified without further delay.
