Website Impact! Open Pits (Death Traps) on Footpath near Pabbas Covered with Planks

Mangaluru: Talk about magic that issues highlighted in Mangalorean.com are getting rectified in no time- so, once again Mangalorean.com has proved one more positive result after highlighting another civic issue -Talk about the power of media, especially Electronic media where we highlight the civic issues and within a few hours or couple of days the concerned authorities who can’t bear the criticism about their negligence, quickly get into action and rectify the civic issues. In the past Mangalorean.com has highlighted various civic issues through our website, and there has been a tremendous effect with most of the problems being fixed in no time, from rectifying dilapidated roads, open drainage, non-friendly footpaths, dog menace, neglected garbage, illegal hoardings, potholes, dying trees etc.

Following our report ‘Death Traps in Front of ‘Pabbas Could Make You ‘Scream for Help’ than ‘Scream for Ideal Ice Cream?‘ dated 22 July 2019 in Mangalorean.com, and on 23 July 2019 the article link was forwarded and also a complaint was filed on the same issue with ‘Janahitha’ by MCC Civic Group, and in response K C Ganapathi, the Junior Engineer (UGD) with Mangaluru City Corporation took action and assigned the officials to look into the matter and do the needful. As they say “Something is better than nothing”, the concerned authorities now have at least covered the open pits (death traps) with (wooden) planks- even though the chances are that someone may trip due to these planks, but it is much safer than someone falling into the open pit, and injure seriously or might even die.

Before the Issue was highlighted on our website…..

Team Mangalorean expresses sincere thanks to the concerned authorities for taking necessary action and also assuring that the complete concrete work of the footpath will be done soon. Even though this is one civic issue on open pits on the footpath that was highlighted by Team Mangalorean, which received quick action-but there are many such open pits on footpaths at various places which need to be addressed also. Just by looking at this unsafe Footpath work being undertaken by the Smart Engineers and Contractors, Mangaluru can lead the way in attaining this developing nation’s very critical goal – to set our vehicles and pedestrians on the right path. We are at the crossroads. Now we just have to give our walkers the safety right of way.

……After website Impact

All I could say is that the pedestrians will reach home safe only if they are alert and extra cautious. Equally unsafe are people walking on the footpath, as at every 100 mts or less, one can come across uncovered drains, uneven or broken concrete slabs. A slight distraction can cause a youngster or a senior citizen off balance and get himself injured. As to the damaged footpath, why the so-called concrete slabs don’t last long. The answer is simple, the poor quality of the material. Who do we blame? And regarding all this unsafe footpath and many other unsafe footpaths in the so-called ‘SMART CITY’, the smart people at the helm of developmental projects or MCC officials need to take action quickly before someone gets hurt. Until then walk safely with caution?

So, Why is our MCC so negligent when it comes to the safety of citizens. Where is all our tax money going-we need safe footpaths and safe roads”. Is anyone in the MCC department listening or just listening and ignoring it, and then take action when someone gets injured or a fatality. So with these open pits (Death Traps) covered by wooden planks, you are little safer than it was a couple of weeks ago- that now you can SCREAM FOR IDEAL ICE CREAM, rather than SCREAM FOR HELP?
