Well-known Advocate Shirthady William Pinto Passes Away

Udupi: A well-known Advocate Shirthady William Pinto passed away on February 17. He was 79.

Shirthady William Pinto was born on March 27, 1939, to Shirthady Raymond and Mary Magdalene Pinto. He was always keen on helping the poor, needy and the backward classes. In 1963, he began practicing law.

In the year 1974, the then chief minister Devaraj Urs introduced the Land Reforms Act which was later translated by Shirthady William Pinto to Konkani and Kannada and published in 5 segments. In the year 1986, he chalked out the Zilla Parishad and Mandal Panchayat rules which won him a place in the heart of the farmers.

In 2006 Shirthady William published an award-winning book “Kanoonu Darshana”. He has won various district and state-level awards, including Sandesha Special Recognition Award-1996, Rachana Award- 2003, J P Samaj Ratna Award-2005, Jeevamanadha Sadhane Award-2007, Red Cross Award and Rajyotsava Award-2004 and so on.

He was Executive Committee member of Don Bosco Club, Udupi (1959-70) was the Secretary(1964-65), served as honorary member of Insurance Workers’ Association (1965-95), member of the Management Committee of Milagres College, Kallianpur (1967-77), Scouts Commissioner(1974-76), Vice President of Udupi Scouts and Guides(1978-98), member of the Editorial Board of Rakno Konkani Weekly (1975 till present), legal advisor to Syndicate Bank, Manipal (1974 till present), Vice President, Catholic Sabha of Mangalore Region (1984-85), member of the District Adult Education Committee (1990-96), Vice President of Lawyers’ Association, Udupi (1997, member of Udupi District Legal Services Authority and member of Administrative Council, CODP, Mangalore and many more.

He is Survived by his wife Rosy Pinto and two sons.

Dear Pinto Family.
Sorry to hear the sad demise of a great lawyer and giving advise to the needy. I know him since late 1960s.
