We’ll not Wait for Veg or Non-veg Blood during emergency – Bilagi during Human Rights day
Mangaluru: The State Human Rights commission, District administration in association with District legal services authority, Non-government organisations and St Agnes College, jointly commemorated the Human Rights Day at the DC office here on December 10.
The programme began with the state anthem. ADC Kumar welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by the Prl. District & Sessions Judge Dakshina Kannada, Mangaluru K S Bilagi by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais.
Addressing the gathering, Bilagi said, “The Human rights day celebrations were supposed to start at 10:30 am by five organisations, but when I reached to the venue there hardly a few people present. I felt that there is a human rights violation here. The Human rights day should not be celebrated only on December 10, we need to celebrate it in our day-to-day life”.
Recalling the story of a blind man, when one blind man was carrying a candle, people teased him and said, you are blind why do you need a candle. The blind said, this candle is not for me but this is for you people so that you may not walk in the dark. In South Africa Nelson Mandela fought against racism and Mahatma Gandhiji was treated like a God by the people there. Wherever there is a violation of human rights, good people are born to protect the human rights. Mother Teresa was an Albanian but she came to India and became the light of the poor and the voiceless.
He further said, “Fundamental Duties and fundamental rights are the two faces of a single coin. We should not forget our duties. We should not discriminate others. When you do good work people will not remember you but if you make a mistake people will remember you and spoil your name. Students should take a pledge that they will not violate human rights. When foreigners visit Mangaluru, they wish us even if they do not know us. We have an ego, we do not want to talk to others.”
He also pointed out that the human rights violation starts from our own home. Parents shout at their children for not getting good marks. Couples fight in front of their children, which will affect them. If we want our children to be disciplined we parents should be disciplined. Parents should teach values to their children. When we were born we did not bring any religion, we were born as human beings, but later we fight for religion. When someone needs blood they will not ask for the blood of a person of a particular religion or whether the blood is of a non-veg or a vegetarian person, When we meet with an accident and get admitted to the hospital and if we need blood we will not wait for the blood of a person of our own religion. No religion teaches to hate others, every religion teaches to love others. God has given us a date of birth but he did not give us an expiry date. If we would have known our expiry date, we would not have been here. For human values, there is no expiry. Life is a journey, in this world, we need to live for others”.
Senior Civil Judge Mallana Gowda also spoke on the occasion. Secretary Karnataka State Human Rights commission Madhu Sharma delivered the presidential address.
DCP Law and order Shantharaju, Additional SP Dr Vedamurthy, Principal St Agnes Dr M Jeswina AC, Umesh from ZP, Balakrishna Rai and others were also present.
I love how these self-declared champions of ‘human rights’ are very good at hurling cheap shots at Brahmana people by bringing veg-nonveg reference. Try to make them one statement on notorious human rights abuse and violation done by one specific community and see how quickly they run and hide under their desks!! What a country!!! This is exactly why liberal and secular groups have lost all respect and credibility. Human rights is an important topic and one has to have intellectual honesty before preaching others on this topic. Oh well…
