Wenlock Pediatric Centre will be upgraded to regional Institute – Minister Ramesh

Mangaluru: The Wenlock Pediatric Care Centre will be upgraded to regional Institute. We will cancel the APL and BPL cards and bring Universal Health cards, private hospitals will be given a slogan, “Treatment first payment next”, said the Health and family welfare minister K R Ramesh in a press meet held at the DC office here on December 9.

Addressing the mediaperons Minister Ramesh said, “Under the CSR project, MPRL is spending Rs 21 crore for the construction of the 150 bedded Lady Goschen Hospital. The hospital will be inaugurated on March 23, 2017. Additional funds of Rs 10 crore is also sanctioned to complete the work on time. The new block of 125 beds at the Wenlock hospital will be constructed and Rs 9.7 crore has been sanctioned under NABARD. For the restoration of the Wenlock hospital, Rs 18.20 crore has been sanctioned. The tender process is on and we have already released Rs 5 crore for the same.”

Ramesh also said, “There is a nursing school which needs to be renovated. We will sanction Rs 13 lakh for the renovation of the Nursing school. All the critical vacancies will be filled by December end. We have already sanctioned Rs 30 lakh for Peritoneal Dialysis. In 1954 the KMC hospital and Wenlock hospital had signed the lease agreement, since then the KMC hospital has given equipment, manpower, laboratories, and Diagnosing services worth Rs 26 crore, to the Wenlock Hospital. Next year the contract will expire. While renewing the lease agreement, medical services will be provided free of cost. We are planning to make Wenlock as a super specialty hospital. There is no compromise in the treatment of the patients. If the government hospitals will be given to the private hospitals they will provide quality treatment. Our priority is to provide super specialty services for the poor. A 1 lakh sq ft new hospital building will be constructed in phase one and the work will be completed in 18 months. In the second phase, the old Wenlock hospital will be renovated. In the third phase, the out-patient department in the Wenlock hospital will be renovated and all the work will be completed in 4 years time”.

Prior to the press meet, Minister Ramesh inaugurated “Spandana Centre”, to provide Aadhar card and 40 other services to the public Under Atalji Janasnehi Kendra, at the DC office premises.

District minister in-charge Ramanath, former minister Abhaychandra Jain, MLA J R Lobo, MLA Moideen Bava, Cheif Whip Ivan D’Souza, DC Dr Jagadeesha, Dr Shalini Rajneesh ADC Kumar and others were also present.
