What did I do, asks Paltrow on being ‘most hated celeb’

Los Angeles, July 1 (IANS) Actress Gwyneth Paltrow still doesn’t understand why she was once the “most hated celebrity”.

Three years after Star magazine called her so in their 2013 rankings list, the actress finally responded to the title during a recent appearance on BBC News’ show “Hardtalk”, reports aceshowbiz.com.

“First of all, I was like, ‘I am the most hated celebrity? More than, like, Chris Brown?’ What did I do,” Paltrow told host Stephen Sackur, recalling the first time she found out that she came out atop the list that also included Hollywood A-listers like Anne Hathaway, Madonna, Lindsay Lohan, Kristen Stewart and Chris Brown.

When told by the host that she probably made “people feel bad sometimes”, Paltrow said that she never intended to hurt anyone.

“All I can do is be my authentic self, and if you know me, then you know who I am, and that I have fun and eat and am so appreciative for my life. But I think there are things about me that make people draw conclusions,” she explained.

The “Iron Man 3” star speculated that people might dislike her thinking she was “spoiled” because she was born in a wealthy family. However, she stressed that her own hard work was what made her who she is today.

“That inspires a lot of resentment. My parents did well, and I was able to go to a fantastic school, and we grew up in New York City, but the minute I left my college to try to pursue acting, my father was really supportive. But he said, you know, ‘You are completely on your own’,” she told the host.

“So, he never gave me anything. I never had any supplementation. He never helped me with my rent. I never had a trust fund,” she said, adding, “So the idea that I am spoiled or that I didn’t work for what I have is just not accurate, but I can see how somebody might have that perception.”
