Udupi: “No place for anyone today is safe. Whatever the Survey reports, I’m proud of being born in India. If I did not get the freedom, I could not have been in this place. Although the barriers are common in everyone’s life, India is a safe place for women”, said Miss World Manushi Chiller.
She was responding to the queries of media persons during her visit to Udupi on the global survey that India was the most dangerous country for women.
Speaking to the mediapersons Manushi said, “When I landed in the Coastal district, the rains welcomed me. I am visiting Udupi and Mangaluru for the first time, the green environment of the coastal districts gives me great pleasure. There is always the heat wave in Delhi and Mumbai but here in the Coastal districts the cool and pleasant weather makes me happy”, she said.
Manushi further said, “From the age of 18, I have been working to create awareness among the people on cleanliness. For this reason, I got the Beauty with the Purpose Award. There is a lot that can happen if the priorities of political parties is menstrual hygiene in their manifestos. It is not only with just “politicians”. “Every individual” has a social responsibility that can push for a change in the society. Many girls in India miss five days of school in a month due to menstruation and 23% drop out of school after adolescence. “Education” is a must”, she said.
when asked about getting into Bollywood, Manushi said, “For one year, I will be travelling across the world with various projects. I will be spreading awareness about menstrual hygiene. Bollywood, as of now is not on my mind, so let’s see after completing my awareness campaign on menstrual hygiene”, she said.
