Whoever is involved in Aithappa Assault Case will not be Spared – Chandra Sekhar
Mangaluru: “In the ASI Aithappa assault case, the Urwa police have arrested two persons from Pumpwell on April 6. They will be produced before the court and taken into police custody for further investigations to find out if any others are involved in the assault. We have already directed our police officer to investigate the case thoroughly. Whoever is involved in the attack will not be spared”, said police commissioner Chandra Sekhar in a press meet held at the police commissioner’s office here on April 7.
Chandra Sekhar also said, “I have directed my team to investigate the case. It is an attack on a policeman, it was an attack on my colleague and a brother officer. We will take the investigation to a logical conclusion. I have directed the police officers to use reasonable force and we have given clear direction because there is a provision in the law to use reasonable force for self-defense. If there are any others involved in the assault of ASI Aithappa we will take action against them too. We are looking into all possible directions because those arrested are hardcore criminals. It will take some time for us to get the right information from them”.
When asked about using force, Chandra Sekhar said, “It is my duty to ensure that my men are safeguarded properly. I will certainly do it in the best possible way. If I fail in my duty to provide safety to my men it will be my worst failure. I cannot allow anyone to come and assault them. I have to give them the confidence to work without fear, to work impartially and it is my duty to ensure them to live up to the hope that they can come to the service to uphold the constitution. They have the right to protect themselves by using force and act upon. We will provide them whatever weapons they require.”
When asked about the condition of ASI Aithappa, the Police commissioner said, “Aithappa is recovering now. His condition is stable but we have to ensure that there will be proper treatment. Whatever help Aithappa needs from the department we will do it for him. There is no full stop or comma. Whatever is needed for him to recover, it will be provided. The department is with him and we are with him. We are with all the policemen and we will stand together because if we will not stand together we will crumble.”
DCP Crime and Traffic Dr Sanjeev Patil was also present.
