Why did BJP Mahila Morcha not approach Mayor in Watchman Wife assault Issue ?Sashidhar Hegde

Mangaluru: “The allegation put by BJP corporator Roopa D Bangera and Mahila Morcha Suratkal Block President Pooja Pai, that Mayor Kavitha Sanil had assaulted the watchman’s wife Kamala at Sagar Pulemar Residency is far from the truth. Mayor Kavitha has already released the CCTV footage to the media which clearly shows that on October 20 night at around 8:56 pm, the Watchman’s wife Kamala was chasing the Mayor’s daughter. On October 26, at around 4:07 pm, within four minutes the Mayor had spoken to the watchman and his wife and left from there. The opposition is playing politics on silly issues”, said the former mayor and chief whip of Mangaluru City Corporation Sashidhar Hedge in a press meet held at the DCC office, Mallikatta here on October 28.

Addressing the mediapersons Sashidhar Hegde said, “On October 26 after Mayor Kavitha had left, after meeting the watchman to ask why his wife had chased her daughter within a gap of four minutes, the watchman’s family including the children had come out of the room and their behaviour was casual. If the Mayor had assaulted Kamala why did she not file any complaint against the Mayor at the same time? Why did Kamala not inform the president of the building? How did they inform Roopa and Pooja? Corporator Roopa D Bangera and Pooja Pai had gone there to meet the watchman at 8:40 pm. If they were really concerned about the watchman’s family, why they did not file a case on the same night.”

Sashidhar Hegde further said, “On October 27, after coming to know about the news published by some media, the Mayor called a press meet to clarify the issue. When the Mayor released the CCTV footage to the media and clarified the allegations, the opposition thought that if Mayor will file a case, Kamala will be arrested for chasing the Mayor’s daughter and got into action and in a hurry took the watchman’s wife to the district Government Wenlock Hospital. But the hospital authorities refused to admit her in the hospital as she has no any health issues or injuries”.

Sashidhar also said, “Dakshina Kannada district has good culture but the BJP is taking advantage of every issue for political gain. Roopa had visited the Mayor’s house in the past and if she was really concerned about women, she would have met the Mayor to clarify the allegations. But Roopa and Pooja tried to blow out a silly issue for political gain. Being the Mayor, Kavitha is also a mother of two kids and she has a soft corner towards women. Why would she go and thrash the watchman’s wife or throw the kid as alleged? The Mayor has now filed a case against the Watchman’s wife and a thorough investigation should be done in this matter and the culprits punished”.

When asked about the allegation from the opposition that a case was filed against Mayor Kavitha in the Urwa Police station in 2016 by Harish Poojary, Sashidhar Hegde said, “In 2016 Kavitha was the chairperson of the Health Committee in MCC. During her tenure as the Chairperson, she had conducted a raid and evacuated the illegal petty shops from the roadside after receiving several complaints from the public. She had also evacuated a petty shop in Bejai belonging to Harish Poojary. After the evacuation, Harish had filed a complaint in the Urwa police against Kavitha Sanil, Health Officer Manjayya and Bharat which was dismissed by the court in 2016”.

Speaking to mangalorean.com Mayor Kavitha Sanil said, “I believe in the Goddess Kateeleshwari, I live on only water for 9 days and hold a padayatra from my house to the Kateeleshwari Temple. Whoever is trying to defame me let the Goddess Kateeleshwari forgive them. I am a woman and I have two children, I am not that cruel to assault the watchman’s wife. The truth will come out soon, if they have any proof that I have assaulted the watchman’s wife, let them release it.”

District Congress president Harish Kumar, Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh, Former Mayor Harinath, Corporators Naveen D’Souza, Sabitha Misquith, Nagaveni and others were also present.
