Why were Jalil & Nausheen Killed? WIM stages protest against CAA, NRC and NPR

Mangaluru: The Women India Movement Dakshina Kannada staged a protest against the CAA, NRC and NPR and also the recent incident which took place on December 19, in front of the Ambedkar Statue at Town Hall here on January 11.

Addressing the protesters Jalil’s relative Sakeena said, “We are here to protest against the police firing which killed Jalil and Nausheen. On December 19 when students were protesting against the CAA and NRC the police resorted lathi-charge and the students were asking the police why are you beating us? But the police continued beating them. Why injustice? We are Mangaloreans and intellectuals but being educated the police resorted to lathi-charge on the students. I ask the Mangaluru police why did they kill Jalil and Nausheen? They were innocent but cases were registered against them. We respect the Mangaluru police. You are our protectors, you should provide safety for us. Let us live in peace and let others live”.

Addressing the protesters State committee member Campus Front of India Amrin said, “You all are here to save democracy. You have come here in large numbers with your kids. Did we come out when they implemented the triple talaq bill? Did we protest when article 370 was scrapped? Every Indian has the right to fight for their rights. What do you think, are women only to cook in the kitchen? But we are ready to fight for justice. We will not sit quietly when our rights are snatched. Whenever there is a need, we will come on the road to protest. What is CAA? CAA means Dawaat. Wherever I like, I will join the university to pursue my education, who are you to harass us?”

National Committee member of National Women’s Front, Dildar said, “Today I do not want to address you as “beheno” because Narendra Modi fooled us calling us “Beheno Beheno”, I will address you as sisters, today we are seeing the same scene that we have studied in School about the 1947 freedom fight. But today that same scene is in front of us and we are facing the same situation. I would like to ask one question to the police, if a poor boy steals bread and runs away, the police chase him. But the Sangh Parivar claims that they are behind the act in the JNU, what did the police do? You all have gathered here to fight for your rights, this is the beginning until Modi and Shah withdraw the CAA and NRC we will continue our protest and raise our voice. We are the children of Tipu, we will live like a lion and not live like a coward. It is not possible to forget the sacrifices made by our brothers. We are Indians and we will remain as Indians.”

Rumena a student of the Kanachur Medical College said, “This is the heaven for non-Muslims and hell for Muslims. But don’t worry about it, we have technology and people are with us but many people in Kudroli, Bengre, Manjanadi and Kodi don’t have proper food to eat. You all should bring awareness among the people of that area. Now some people will come asking for documents for medical or any other schemes, please don’t provide any of your documents.”

Addressing the protesters State president of Women’s India Movement Shahida Taslim said, “Why are the protests going on where there is BJP rule? In Mangaluru 2 people lost their lives. We will not allow the government to implement CAA and NRC. We had decided to hold a protest in front of the DC office on December 24, but due to curfew, we postponed our protest. Today we have gathered here to protest against the CAA and NRC. The Police say that when we were firing in the air two people died. I ask whether Jalil and Nausheen were flying? We will not allow the police to fire any innocent? We will protest peacefully. Why are the police scared to permit us to protest?” Shahida demanded the government to sanction Rs 50 lakh to the family of Jalil and Nausheen. Their family members should be given a government job. The medical expenses of those injured in the firing should be paid by the government. Minorities now live in fear, they should be provided security.

District president of Women’s India Movement Nasriya Bellare, Social Activist Nazma and member of South Karnataka Salfi Movement Muzahida also spoke on the occasion. Ramlath Vamanjoor compered the programme.

There is not a single sentence why they consider CAA is aginst them. It ha nothing to do with citizens. The leaders are hiding that fact. CAA is only ensuring that those who created the Pak do not come back. CAA will do no harm to even single citizen whether Muslim or non-Muslim.

First instigate, engage in violence and then play victim card – This is the same game played by these groups from Gaza strip to Kashmir and, unfortunately, Mangalore as well. True- Police can be rough and disproportionate in their response. Unfortunately, innocent bystanders can fall victim and pay ultimate price. But who instigated the violence? How come they are not taking responsibility for their own action? Also, why are they spreading lies about CAA when it has nothing to do with Indian citizens? These protests are all based on lies and hatred towards Hindus.
