‘Will not Tolerate if Udupi SP Transferred for Political Reasons’ – Kota Srinivas Poojary

Udupi: Now the Udupi district superintendents of Police have become important for political leaders of the Congress and BJP in Udupi. The Ruling Congress leaders are demanding the transfer of Udupi SP Laxman Nimbargi for resorting to lathi charge during the Bharat Bandh.

On October 2, Congress workers had gheraoed the District Minister In-charge Jayamala during her visit to the district Congress Bhavan in the city.

The workers had expressed their displeasure with her for not standing behind them while the police had resorted to lathi charge during the All India bandh in Udupi and for not visiting them in the hospital. They had demanded the minister to transfer the SP. “Instead of giving us justice, she (Jayamala) had lunch at the SP’s house,” the activists said.

As Jayamala came out after taking part in 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi, organized by Udupi district Rajiv Gandhi Panchayat Raj Sanghatane, more than 25 workers gheraoed her and expressed their displeasure.

Embarrassed by the party workers action, Jayamala tried to pacify them and said, “I have collected information from the SP and have directed him to punish the wrongdoers. The party workers need not try to scare me bring the media with them,” she had said and left the venue.

After the gherao incident, BJP MLC and leader of opposition legislative council Kota Srinivas Poojary warned the state government by his tweet.

In a tweet Kota Srinivas Poojary warned the government saying, “Our co-operation is only for good governance. We will not tolerate if the Udupi District SP is transferred for political reasons. (Sasuthra Adalithakke Namma Sahakara Ide Adare Udupi SP yannu Rajakiya Karanakke Vargavane Madidare Sahisuvudilla. Eccharike).

The Udupi police had resorted to lathi charge to disperse the clashing Congress and the BJP workers here during the nationwide bandh call given by the Congress and other political parties, on September 10, 2018. As arguments between the Congress and BJP workers turned violent, the police wielded the lathi to quell the mob. In the melee, several persons, including CMC members, were injured.

Though the police appealed to maintain law and order, both BJP and Congress workers continued the heated exchange of words and also attempted to assault each other in the presence of SP Laxman Nimbargi. To bring the situation under control, the police personnel, including the SP had resorted to lathi charge.
