‘Will study demand for NIA probe into DK incidents’
New Delhi : Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday promised a delegation of BJP MPs from Karnataka that he would study whether the National Investigating Agency (NIA) can take over the probe into communal violence incidents reported from Bantwal and surrounding areas in Dakshina Kannada district.
Receiving a memorandum from the delegation led by state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa here, Singh said he would study whether the NIA probe can be ordered or not.
Though the Home Ministry can direct the NIA to take over the probe suomotu, without seeking the state’s permission, the incidents should be covered under the NIA Act.
“We have also demanded a ban on Popular Front of India and Karnataka Democratic Front stating that these organisations have a role in the killing of RSS workers and flaring up communal incidents,” Yeddyurappa said.
