Berlin, Aug 13 (IANS) Germany football team head coach Joachim Low has congratulated Bayern Munich for signing Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal and Brazilian winger Douglas Costa — but maintains that the Bavarian club would still have to fight to win Bundesliga title.
“With the acquisitions of Vidal and Costa they have become even more flexible. (Head coach) Pep Guardiola has a squad with almost unprecedented quality, (but) that does not mean that the title has already been awarded,” the 2014 FIFA World Cup winning coach was quoted as saying by EFE on Wednesday.
Low mentioned that expectations have already been unleashed regarding the new Bundesliga season, which starts on Friday with the match between Bayern and Hamburg.
There will be great pressure on the favourite club, Low explained, because if Bayern win the Bundesliga this year for the fourth consecutive time, the third with Guardiola, it will be a new record in German football history.
Despite having won the last three Bundesliga titles, plus the DFB-Pokal in 2014, Bayern have not yet managed to win the European Champions League nor the DFL-Supercup since the Spanish coach took the reins.
