With Love & Care Pourakarmikas of Antony Waste Handling Cell Pvt Ltd (AWHCPL)-Mangaluru get Medical Check-Up by KMC Doctors-Attavar

Mangaluru: With nearly 300 plus Pourakarmikas and drivers of Antony Waste Handling Cell Pvt Ltd-Mangaluru hauling garbage for MangaluruCity Corporation, there are chances of them getting sick since they are exposed daily to waste, which includes chemicals, oils, toxic materials etc. Even though these workers are provided gloves and other protective clothing, very seldom many of them make use of them. And due to this, they could get sick easily since they come in contact with different kinds of waste on a daily routine.

Thinking of the fate of these waste handling workers, and also concerned about their health, members of Mangaluru Tamil Sangam came up with an initiative of organizing a “Health-Camp” for nearly 325 workers of AWHCPL at their Workshop in Kulur-Mangaluru on Wednesday, 3 January from 2.30 pm-5.30 pm. The camp was organized in association with Kasturba Medical College Hospital-Attavar, Mangaluru, AWHCPL, and also joined by members of Anti-Pollution Drive Foundation-Mangaluru.

As part of the formal function, Nagaveni- MCC Health Committee Chairman addressing the gathering said, ” This is indeed a very thoughtful project undertaken by Mangaluru Tamil Sangam members in association with AWHCPL for the benefit of all these laborers and drivers of this waste handling firm. With all these workers exposed to garbage on a daily basis, you never know what they will come in contact with that is mixed in the waste. By having health check-up camps like this one, will surely benefit them, so that they can see a doctor if case they have any symptoms. We also need to thank the KMC doctors for their service towards these workers”.

Also speaking on the occasion, Senthil Krishna-President of Mangaluru Tamil Sangam said, ” Even though our organization is about two years old we have organized a few community service events. And while looking at the life of these waste handling workers who daily handle different kinds of garbage, there are chances that they could get sick easily, if they don’t take care of their health conditions. So keeping that in mind we thought of arranging this Medical-Camp in coordination with KMC and AWHCPL, so that we could make a difference in the lives of these pourakarmikas. We will also conduct many other community projects in the months to come. We look forward for support from the society in our projects”.

Santhosh Nair- Operation Head at AWHCPL also speaking said, “We have conducted couple other health-camps in the past, and we are happy that Mangaluru Tamil Sangam, KMC and APD Foundation have this time joined hands in organizing this medical camp. It is indeed a kind gesture on their part to do such a project for the benefit of our company workers. We always try to take care of the health of these laborers, and we provide them with all the protective gear that is needed while handling their daily work.
