With Motto ‘Health Through Sports’, the 38th National Masters Athletic Championship will be held at Mangala Stadium in the City from 12-15 April 2018 organized by Dakshina Kannada Masters Athletic Association in association with Karnataka Masters Athletic Association

Mangaluru: With Motto ‘Health Through Sports’, the 38th National Masters Athletic Championship will be held at Mangala Stadium in the City from 12-15 April, 2018 organized by Dakshina Kannada Masters Athletic Association in association with Karnataka Masters Athletic Association, said K Thejomaya- Chairman of the Organizing Committee during a press meet held at Hotel Maya International-Mangaluru.

He further said, “Nearly 1600 athletes will be taking part in this championship, with 335 athletes from Karnataka, 320 from Maharashtra, 145 from Tamil Nadu, 140 from Kerala, 105 from Andhra Pradesh, 87 from Gujarat, 70 from Chandigarh, among many others. Invitee country Sri Lanka has confirmed the participation of 46 athletes. Both Men and Women in the age group of 30 plus to 85 plus qualify to compete in this championship. This championship is a unique opportunity particularly for the residents of Mangaluru City to watch the master athletes in action. Children and the younger generation can avail this opportunity to see and learn from their very senior athletes how to be competitive on the field”

“Due to certain restrictions due to the Election Model Code, there won’t be much extravaganza during the inaugural function. A simple march past has been planned from around the Mangala Stadium and culminating inside the stadium. No politicians have been invited for the inauguration nor the valedictory of this event. Medals and certificates will be given to the winners. Ashok Gupta from Uttar Pradesh, who had won the President’s Award for Best Teacher, and who is taking part in the Walk event at the meet will be felicitated, along with other two persons.

DC Sasikanth Senthil will inaugurate the event on 12 April at 10.30 am, along with guests of honor- TR Suresh-Police Commissioner; Yenepoya Abdulla Kunhi-Chancellor, Yenepoya University; Manjunath Bhandary-President-DK Dist. Athletic Association; D H Guru-Working President, IMA; and K Jayramaiah-Secretary, KMAA. The valedictory of the championship will be on Sunday 15 April at 5 pm, with Sadananda Shetty- Chairman, Sri Devi Educational Trust, along with guests of honor, Amarender Reddy-Chairman, India Masters Athletics, and Dharampaal Sharma- Senior Vice President, IMA.

Gerald D’Souza- Secretary, IMA; Bhasker K- Jt secretary, DKMAA; Vasanth Achar-Treasurer, DKMAA; and Anand Soans- Secretary, DKMAA were also seated on the dais during the press meet. Raymond D’souza and Tharanath Shetty-both organizing secretaries of DKMAA also graced the press meet.
