‘With Total Security provided and Expecting Smooth Polling on Election Day with All Our Efforts and Necessary Precautions Taken ‘- Superintendent of Police of Dakshina Kannada Dr B.R. Ravikanthe Gowda

Mangaluru: Briefing about all the necessary precautions through proper security on Election Day on 12 May 2018, Superintendent of Police of Dakshina Kannada Dr B.R. Ravikanthe Gowda briefing the media said, “With all the necessary precautions taken and also trying to put in all our efforts, I am confident that it will be a smooth polling day without any untoward incidents. We have identified certain people who have criminal history and ex-terned them. We have also identified and given stern warning to those who threaten people in villages and cities as to whom to vote and whom not to vote. We have all tied with the Kerala police to crack down on persons involving in illegal activities entering and exiting DK”

“The Police department have invoked Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, Gamblers, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders and Slum-Grabbers (Goonda) Act against four detainees and orders of externment has been issued against six persons. Elaborate arrangements for the Assembly elections in the 981 booths of Manglauru City South, Manglauru City North, Moodbidri and Mangaluru Assembly constituencies, the city police have initiated security proceedings against 753 persons and have taken a bond of good conduct from them. The police are keeping close watch on movements of 2,756 rowdy-sheeters and 90 persons who are suspected of creating disturbance in the city.: added SP.

He further said, The police have set up 24 check posts, including six on the Karnataka-Kerala border areas. Police have identified 75 vulnerable areas where route marches of the city police and Central Armed Police Force are being conducted. So far, 206 route marches have been conducted. All the check posts are fitted with CCTV, but those check posts not having permanent CCTV, during the election time temporary CCTV’s will be installed. We will also check most of the vehicles passing through these check posts. Nearly 1400 Central Paramilitary Force {CPF} will also help out, and will monitor mostly on the Naxal affected areas. We will use all the police force available for security reasons and so that no trouble or untoward incidents occur”

“Apart from 2,700 police personnel deployed, there will be personnel from Central Armed Police Force, Karnataka State Reserve Police and two squads of Special Weapons and Tactics on election day. We have seized nearly Rs 4 lakhs at check posts, which is in the court to be claimed with proper documents. Also seized 6.85 kgs of Ganja, and 1222 sarees during checks. 100% guns {9880 guns} deposit has been made, while special permission has been given to farmers to possess guns, in order for their protection from wild animals and intruders. ” added SP.

” On election day-6 DySp mobiles, 12 CBI mobiles and 72 Sector mobiles will be in force. We are happy to note that no untoward incidents or trouble took place during PM or other Politicians recent visits to Mangaluru, and this was because of the strong security arrangements and precautionary measures taken- and similarly it will happen during the election time. Modern communication gadgets will be used to monitor the activities on polling day. I am happy to say that no cases have been registered against any media. We will be keeping a watch on social media, including FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram etc. Also publishing fake news on community and religion will be strongly dealt and action taken. But if fake news is published against an individual, action will be taken only when the person files an FIR or complaint” said SP B R Gowda.

He further added, “Among the 8 communal cases booked, among them are Ratnakar Shetty and Kaleel from Kalladka/Puttur, who are under arrest till July end. As per DC’s order sale of liquor is banned between 6 p.m. on May 10 and 6 p.m. on May 12. The ban could be prolonged depending on the situation after the election. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code will be in force between 6 p.m. on May 10 and 6 p.m. on May 13. There will be no “Saturday Market/Shandy Market at Bikkarnakatte/Kaikamba in City and Karnad, respectively, or any kinds of Fairs, Festivals, open-air shows etc on May 12. Finally, I want to thank the local media for being very positive and forgiving wide publicity about the proceedings and arrangements done prior to the election day”.
