Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club- Rahim Uchil- BJP State Vice President of Minority Morcha said, “I too was there in the Iftar get-together organised by Sri Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math in Udupi a few days ago. The Swamiji has done nothing wrong. It was a simple programme. However, Pramod Muthalik and his members of Sri Rama Sene have criticised him for creating disharmony. Hinduism always talks about being good with other religions. When Swamiji organised the Iftar party at the Math he did not mean to hurt anyone. He did it with a gesture of friendship, peace and togetherness. I have been closely associated with the Swamiji for a long time”.

Uchil further said, “There have been many inter-faith programmes held in the Mosques, where a large number of Hindus had participated- and there was no objections or protests from the Muslim community. Then why all this controversy here just because the Swamiji hosted the Iftar get-together. There was a strong reason behind his decision, and we need to support and stand with him. Hindu religion has always supported religious harmony. Many Muslims have helped this Math grow. Sri Krishna Math and Swamiji welcome all devotees with love without any discrimination. We all, irrespective of caste or creed should appreciate Swamiji’s decision on building communal harmony between people of different religions. Swamiji is a strong guiding force for us to build a strong nation of unity and harmony. We all should respect him and his move in creating peace and harmony among various religions”.

“Out of jealousy and to create disharmony Muthalik and his followers have planned protests in Udupi and Mangaluru. I am very much against the protest on July 2. I urge SRS and other saffron organisations to withdraw the protest, if not we will also stage our own protest on that day. We all need to get together and build a strong nation by giving up religious issues. Swamiji has been receiving overwhelming support from political leaders as well as writers from the state amid objections from few people. Many political leaders have come in support of the Swamiji namely D V Sadananda Gowda, MP Pratap Sinha and Jagadish Shettar from BJP, former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy from JD(S) and Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya from Congress have praised Swamiji for his initiative.

Among those who have criticised the Swamiji are Pramod Muthalik and local Member of Parliament Shobha Karandlaje. We only hope that these organisations decide to withdraw the protest for the good and harmony among people” added Uchil.
