Woman Takes Husband’s Body on Cart after Relatives Refuse to Attend Last Rites
Chikkodi: In a heart-wrenching incident a woman carried the body of her husband on a cart after relatives refused to attend the last rites, at Athani here on July 17.
Sadashiv Hiratti (55) was suffering from health issues and had breathed his last on July 16 night. But his relatives refused to attend the funeral thinking that Sadashiv had died of COVID-19. Sadashiv’s wife, with the help of her neighbour and son, took the body on a cart to the crematorium.
Sadashiv was a cobbler by profession. He had come home late night on July 16, went to sleep, and never woke up. On July 17, his wife informed the relatives about Sadashiv’s death, but they did not show up thinking that Sadashiv had died of COVID-19. When the relatives refused to come, Sadashiv’s wife wrapped the body with cloth and carried it on a cart to the crematorium for cremation.
Sadashiv’s 13-year-old son accompanied his mother during the final rites. This incident has proved that there is no value for human life during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic.
