Workshop on Application of Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy in Clinical Settings’ at KMC Hospital Attavar

Mangaluru: Department of Psychiatry, KMC, Mangalore is conducting a two-day skill building workshop on ‘Application of Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy in Clinical Settings’ on 6th and 7th April 2017. The event will be Inaugurated by Medical Superintendent, KMC Hospital, Dr. Anand Venugopal and Dr. Dinesh N, Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology, KMC, Manipal will deliver the Keynote address.

The workshop is aimed at enriching the therapy skills of professionals working in the field of mental health. Dr. Keshava Pai, Head of Department of Psychiatry informed that the two-day workshop is accredited by Karnataka Medical Council (KMC) and the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). Organizing secretary and Assistant Professor Sujith Babu informed the media that Mindfulness-based therapies are the latest and most effective Psychotherapy which is upcoming in the field of mental health. Joined Secretary and Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology Syam K Ravindran informed that this program has attracted Clinical Psychologists, resource teachers and other professionals who are registered with RCI as well.

The Department of Psychiatry, KMC Mangalore in commemoration of the World Health Day, in association with the Department of Psychiatry, Wenlock District Hospital, is conducting a poster competition for medical/psychology/social work students. The theme for World Health Day 2017 is “DEPRESSION: LET’S TALK”. The WHO has specially focused on depression in adolescents/young adults, postpartum women and elderly said the organizing secretary Dr. Prima D’Souza. The poster competition has been organized based on the themes specified by the WHO. The posters will be displayed at K.M.C. Hospital Attavar on 6th and 7th April. Dr. Unnikrishnan, Associate Dean, KMC, Mangalore and Dr. Sunil Kumar, Senior Specialist Psychiatrist, Wenlock District Hospital will judge the event. The results of the poster competition will be announced during the valedictory function of the CME on ‘mindfulness-based cognitive therapy in clinical settings’ on 7th April. The poster competition is held to support the WHO in its goals of enhancing awareness about depression in the general population, thereby reducing the stigma; increasing treatment-seeking by people with depression and providing support for carers and family.
