Workshop on Emergency Life-Saving Skills held at Roshni Nilaya
Mangaluru: Post Graduate Department of Social Work and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangaluru, in collaboration with the Department of Community Medicine, Father Muller College, Mangaluru, organized a workshop on “Emergency Life-Saving Skills” for MSW students on October 25, 2023 (Wednesday) at the Seminar Hall.
The resource person for the workshop was Dr Sudhir Prabhu H, Professor & HOD, Department of Community Medicine, Senior Instructor for Jeeva Raksha Emergency Comprehensive Life Skills course and Master trainer, First Responder Training Course of Government of India. Dr. Divya Vincent, Assistant Professor, Department of Anaesthesia and Dr. Sweedyl Fernandes, Intern at Father Muller Medical College assisted Dr. Sudhir in conducting the programme.
Dr. Sudhir explained the theoretical aspects of medical emergencies, differentiating between cardiac arrest and syncope/fainting, and other basics of various medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest, choking, tourniquet, accidents, seizures attacks were explained in detail along with the ways to attend to a person in these emergencies. Furthermore, students were divided into six groups to practice immediate responses during choking, CPR for Cardiac Arrest and Tourniquet for severe blood loss in lower limb areas. Each student was trained to practice the above-mentioned life-saving skills.
Dr Sebastin KV, Dean Academics, Dr Meena Montero, Dean Research, Faculty Co-ordinator of the workshop Mrs Anuradha Shetty and Student Welfare Officer Ms Jinsa Joseph Ms Angeline Ebinezar were present during the workshop.
Ms Sona Prakash, Student Convenor compered the workshop. Amar Rai invoked God’s blessings. Ms Shalon J Pais delivered the vote of thanks. 76 students and faculty members benefited from the workshop.
