World Hearing Day Observed at KMC Hospital Attavar
Mangaluru: The World Hearing Day was observed by the Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology at Sushrutha Hall, KMC Hospital Attavar, on 1st March 2018. The day was devoted to the people with hearing impairment.
The department along with Cochlear Nucleus company experts had organized a workshop for cochlear implant users on the care and maintenance aspects of the cochlear implant.
The deliberations with emphasis on managing cochlear implant devices for longer duration and troubleshooting was appreciated by all the beneficiaries. Hearing aid users who were inspired by cochlear implantation were also present. The need for early identification of hearing impairment followed by intervention through hearing aid/cochlear implantation for the best outcome was emphasized.
KMC is a recognized centre for cochlear implantation under the Central Government ADIP scheme as well as the State Government program. The cochlear implant team experts have successfully conducted more than 30 cochlear implant surgery and habilitation, with good integration of the implantees in the mainstream.
