World Human Rights Day Celebrated at St Aloysius B Ed College

Mangaluru: World Human Rights day was observed at St Aloysius B. Ed College. The chief guest for the occasion was Mrs Megha Rani, Advocate, Bar Council, Mangaluru. The chief guest inspired the students with her motivational speech. She briefed about the meaning of Human Rights and highlighted the significance of observing such a day in the college. She focused on violation of Human Rights, Remedial Measures of safeguarding Human Rights and Legal side that every citizen of India can approach to protect his/her rights when they are violated. She also mentioned the differences between Human Rights and Fundamental Rights of Indian Constitution. Students interacted and clarified their queries.

Dr Farita Viegas, Principal, in her presidential address said that observing Human Rights Day brings together people from all races, castes and religions to work towards the common goals regarding social, physical, spiritual and cultural well being. The day is also deemed as an awakening call to promote the rights of people of vulnerable groups such as women, children and individuals from any marginalized groups.

The programme started with a prayer song by Amith D Souza SJ and group. Shiny rendered the welcome address. Maria highlighted the significance of observing human rights day. Jeshma introduced the chief guest to the audience. Mercy and group showcased a skit on the ‘Freedom and Justice.’ The principal acknowledged the chief guest with a memento. The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Younis. Reena compered the programme. The event was organized under the leadership of staff in-charge Santhosh Furtado
