PVI 2017 is a robust platform for different stakeholders of the industry to showcase their innovations, exchange business ideas and create opportunities, this exhibition is designed to propel plastics industry and its many wings to take-off into the next frontier. Be there to witness the difference in the plastic world”.

Chief guest of the occasion, Jeevan Saldanha-president of KCCI inaugurating the launch meet, in his speech said, ” About 8% of Petroleum worldwide is used for production of Plastics. The cost of packing in bottles is the lowest in Plastic as compared to Glass and aluminum. This also reduces the environmental impact as far as power and resources are concerned as Plastic is also extremely light. Plastic is used in Automobiles, Medical Equipment, Construction etc. and cannot be avoided. However, the impact on other areas is to be considered too. Thin film plastics have brought a bad name to the industry”.

He further said, “Phthalates and BPA bisphenol A (BPA), found in polycarbonate bottles and the linings of food and beverage cans, can leach into food and drinks. The Amundsen, located in the Pacific Sector of Antarctica, is the only sea in Antarctica with no research station on its coast but even in that remotest of environments, there was plastic floating on the sea surface and are found in the systems of aquatic is species. One solution is to treat plastic as a reusable material rather than as a disposable commodity that’s quickly discarded and is mixed with Biological waste. The consumers need to segregate plastic and and other biodegradable waste, so that plastics can be recycled “.

“The manufacturers need to make plastic more easily recyclable by using fewer materials in the manufacturing process and increasing recycling facility availability, reducing the use of harmful chemicals in plastics and developing safer alternatives, a strategy known as green chemistry. The manufacturers also need to take responsibility to ensure that recycling is done and the consumers are educated about the importance of recycling. Our country lacks recycling facilities that exist in First world countries and these are a need of the hour so that the industry and the consumers both are benefited ” added Saldanha.

“Today PET and HDPE are recycled in larger quantities but thin film carry bags are the culprit, which bring a bad name to the plastic industry. Manufacturers could have restricted themselves to 50 micron thickness in manufacture of such bags so that the impact on the environment would have been minimized and there would have been no ban on this product. Both industry and society need to work together to reduce the impact on the environment and that recycled plastics are used as regarded as material rather than waste. This is the way forward and more industries need to participate in this and this will reduce the impact of plastic on the environment” said Jeevan Saldanha..

While concluding, he said, “I appreciate that the organizers of ‘Plastivision 2017’ have a Green Pavilion at this expo dedicated for recycling and visitors can get information regarding the potential for this type of industry and get into these new areas. I wish the Exhibition all the very best and thank the organizers for having me as your Chief Guest for this occasion”.
