Yakshagana Artiste Chittani’s Body taken in Procession to Honnavar
Udupi: A Large crowd including political leaders, Yakshagana Artistes on October 4 morning paid tribute to Eminent Yakshagana artiste and Padma Shri awardee Chittani Ramachandra Hegde who died on October 3 at the KMC hospital Manipal.
Former MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Former Yakashagana Academy president Dr M L Samaga, leaders of various associations paid homage by placing the wreath. A large crowd of workers belonging to the Yakshagana also paid their respects to the departed Yakshagana artiste.
The body was taken in a procession from the KMC hospital to Chittani’s Hometown Honnavar, Uttara Kannada district.
Veteran Yakshagana artiste Chittani Ramachandra Hegde passed away at the KMC hospital in Manipal on Tuesday night, due to pneumonia. He was 84. He was admitted to the intensive care unit in Manipal on Friday.
One of the most popular Yakshagana artistes, Chittani, as he was widely known, hailed from Honnavar in Uttara Kannada district. He was the first among the Yakshagana artistes to receive the Padma Shri Award.
