Yakshagana to mark World Aids Day and promote awareness
Manipal: The district administration will be organising World Aids Day at the Rukmini Shedthi Memorial Hall, Barkur on December 1.
Yakshagana and rally will be organised to spread awareness on Aids. T Venkatesh in a press meet held at his office, Rajathadri Manipal said that all efforts will be made to prevent the spreading of AIDS in the district.
Yakshagana will be held in densely populated areas. 87 high schools and 54 red ribbon colleges will organize awareness programmes on AIDS.
The district is witnessing a lower rate of people affected by AIDS. 80 centers are fully functional to provide counseling and also medication for the people affected by HIV/AIDS. ART facility is extended from July 2008 in Udupi district and in 2012 the facility was introduced in Kundapur. The ART facility is linked to 4 hospitals in the district.
Infected students are provided with a scholarship of rupees 650 as support for their education. Bus passes are provided to HIV/AIDS infected persons. The tri-tier meeting is being held to review the facilities extended to people infected with HIV/AIDS.
The 297 children affected by HIV/AIDS are given hygiene kit and food.
